Volleyball Hosts Dig Pink Night for Breast Cancer Awareness on Tuesday

Brockport, NY – On Tuesday, October 25th at 7pm, the SUNY Brockport volleyball team will host its Dig Pink Night for Breast Cancer Awareness. Brockport takes on St. John Fisher in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
 
Pink Out: Tuesday night is the Dig Pink Night for Breast Cancer Awareness at Brockport and it is a pink out. The team has been selling pink shirts for fans to wear at the match as well as raising funds and awareness. Pink is the associated color with October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
 
The #2 Seed: With a record of 18-5 overall and 8-1 in the conference, the Green and Gold officially locked up the second seed for the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament. With the top seed from Cortland hosting the semifinal and final rounds, Brockport has earned a first-round bye into the semifinals. The team is slated to play at 7pm on November 4th in Cortland, NY, with the opponent still not yet decided.
 
Over the Weekend: This past weekend Brockport took care of business on the road to close out conference play. The squad first took down Fredonia on Friday night, 3-1. Saturday Brockport headed out to Buffalo State for the final SUNYAC contest of the regular season. The Green and Gold swept the Bengals, 3-0, to finish the year at 8-1 in league play.
 
SUNYACs Ahead: With the regular season coming to a close, the SUNYAC Tournament is on the horizon. The first round of postseason play is scheduled for November 1st. Oswego and Geneseo faceoff, while Buffalo State and New Paltz are the other matchup. The winners of that day will go on to face either the top seeded Cortland Red Dragons at 4pm on November 4th, or second seeded Brockport at 7pm that day in the semifinals. It all comes down to a 4pm start on November 5th for the SUNYAC Championship.
 
Offensive Leaders: Jordan Thompson's big season has her at the top of the conference in a couple of key categories. She leads the SUNYAC with 261 kills and 344.5 points. Her marks of 58 aces and 3.22 kills per set are second in the conference. Teammate Andrea Coyle is also one of the premier threats on the outside. With 246 kills and 289.0 total points, Coyle ranks fourth in kills and third in points respectively.
 
2 Top-10 Setters: Brockport is the only team in the conference that has two setters inside the top 10 in assists this season. Both Kerri McHale and Ashley Allen have been consistently connecting with their teammates on the attack. McHale's 457 assists ranks fifth in the SUNYAC, while Allen is eighth with 363 assists.
 
Defensive Stars: Racking up a team-high 51 block assists to go with 16 solo blocks, Myah Frostclapp is tied for second in the SUNYAC with a total of 67 blocks. Her work in the middle has helped her rack up 221.5 points which is 11th best in the conference. Madalyn Bowen has been consistent with an average of 4.72 digs per set, which is second best in the SUNYAC. From the libero position, Bowen has 354 total digs for the third most in the conference. Andrea Coyle is also top 10 at sixth in the SUNYAC with 284 digs.
 
Weekend Tri-Match: This weekend the squad heads to Pittsburgh, PA for the Carnegie Mellon Tri-Match. On Saturday, October 29th the team will take on Denison University (11-10, 5-1 NCAC) at 12:30pm. Soon after there is a 2:30pm match scheduled against the host, Carnegie Mellon (16-6, 3-4 UAA). These will be the final contests of the regular season for Brockport.
 
Looking at Fisher: The Cardinals have won four straight on the way to a 9-0 record in the Empire 8 and own a 16-6 overall mark. #2 Sydney French leads the St. John Fisher attack with 163 kills. #11 Delayne Young has a team-high 205.5 points from 154 kills, 40 aces, and 21 total blocks. #22 Olivia Nellis leads the squad with 46 blocks, while #1 Kiera Hartpence has come up with 251 digs. Keep an eye out for #14 Katie Leaty, as the Cardinal's setter has 527 assists on the season.
 
1st Round Bye: With the second seed clinched going into the SUNYAC Tournament, the Golden Eagles have a first-round bye and go directly to the semifinals. They await the results of the opening round to find out who they will play in the SUNYAC Semifinals on November 4th at 7pm in Cortland, NY.
