Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is at home on Wednesday, November 16
th for a matchup with Hobart College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30pm at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
Last Time Out: Brockport got its first win of the season in the last game, defeating Keystone College, 92-78. The team had a dominant showing in the first half, creating a 49-26 halftime lead.
Mekhi Beckett led the way with a career-high 33 points, while
David Grady III notched his first double-double of the season. Grady had 16 points to go with his 14 rebounds in the game. The victory pushed the Green and Gold up to 1-1 on the young season.
SUNYAC Player of the Week: On Monday, the conference selected
Mekhi Beckett as the SUNYAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week. Beckett led the Golden Eagles in scoring in back-to-back games to start the season last week averaging 30 points a game so far. On top of his scoring numbers, Mekhi is averaging 6.5 rebounds, three assists, and one steal per game. Mekhi scored a career-high 27 points in the season opener before setting a new career-high in game two with 33 points.
1,000 Points Club: In the season opener against Alfred,
Jahidi Wallace finished with 18 points to officially join the 1,000 Career Point Club. He became the 25
th player in program history to score over 1,000 points for Brockport.
Double-Digit Scorers: Brockport currently has four players averaging at least 10 points per game early on this season. Leading the way is
Mekhi Beckett's average of 30 points a night.
Jahidi Wallace is next, putting up 16.5 points a game. Both
Tony Arnold and
David Grady III are scoring a flat 10.0 points per game after the team's 1-1 start.
Looking at Hobart: The Hobart Statesmen enter Wednesday's contest 2-1 overall to start the season. They opened the year with an 88-65 win over St. John Fisher. The team then fell to nationally-ranked Oswego, 65-53, before bouncing back against Anna Maria with a 74-51 win. #25 Jackson Meshanic leads Hobart with averages of 16.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game so far this season. Brockport has won the last two matchups with Hobart, including a 77-53 win on the road last year.
