The SUNY Brockport men's lacrosse team returns to the turf on Wednesday when the Golden Eagles host Morrisville State for their regular season home opener at 4 p.m. A strong group of upperclassmen will lead the way and nine starters return from a 2021 team that played a truncated schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alfred Reschedule: Saturday's season opener at Alfred was postponed due to weather. The contest has been rescheduled for March 29
th at 4 p.m. at Alfred.

Aidan Fitzgerald. This group has combined to play in 130 games since 2018 and they have proven to be particularly resilient throughout the obstacles presented by the pandemic.
Coaching Staff: Head Coach
Ben Wineburg is in the midst of his 22
nd season at the helm of the program and he has helped guide Brockport to the SUNYAC Conference Tournament in three of the last five years that the tournament has been held. Brockport made the conference tournament finals back in 2016 and Wineburg was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year. He was inducted into Rochester's Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame back in 2019, celebrating a collegiate career that included NCAA Division III National Player of the Year honors and a National title as the goalie for Nazareth College. 2021 Recap: Michael Coletti and
Ethan Stiles were Second-Team All-SUNYAC picks, while
Aidan Fitzgerald received Honorable Mention as Brockport went 2-5 overall in a shortened 2021 season due to COVID. The Golden Eagles defeated Oswego twice. Goalie
John Felice finished the season ranked fourth in the conference with a 10.42 goals against average.
Liam O'Connor led Brockport with 12 points on six goals and six assists.
Jack Peterson ranked second on the team with 10 points. Fitzgerald led the team with 31 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers.
Ethan Stiles had a 58.5 face off percentage.
Schedule Highlights: Brockport's regular season schedule include six home games at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium and eight away contests. The season opens with six consecutive non-conference games before entering conference play. Brockport will open up at home against Morrisville and SUNY Delhi in consecutive homes games in early March. Brockport will then hit the road for six of their next seven games. Three of their final five games of the regular season will be back at home, including senior day against Potsdam on Saturday April 23
rd. Brockport's home opener is on March 2
nd vs. Morrisville and their SUNYAC opener is on the road at New Paltz on March 26
th. The 2022 SUNYAC Championship Semifinals will be played on May 4
th and the championship game is set for May 7
th. The conference tournament winner earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Scoring Production: Four of Brockport's top six scorers from a year ago return to the turf this season including
Jack Peterson,
Owen VanWie,
Rocco Santillo and
Patrick Sheridan. Peterson is Brockport's top returning scoring from a year ago after posting a team-high seven goals and adding three assists in a shortened season. In 15 career games he has 18 points and 27 ground balls for Brockport. Santillo has 15 career points (eight goals, seven assists), including six points in just six games last year. VanWie looks forward to a true full season with the Golden Eagles after posting 18 points on nine goals and nine assists in two COVID shortened seasons. Adding depth to the scoring arsenal will be Pittsford's
Jordan Testa as well as
Carson Colucci. Limestone transfer
Nelson Logan could also develop into a key scoring piece of the Golden Eagle offense if he continues to progress. As a freshman at Division II power Limestone in 2019, Logan totaled 22 points.
Active Scoring Leader: Patrick Sheridan is the most experienced attackman of the group and he is the program's active scoring leader. He has played in 28 games since 2018 and has 51 points (39 goals). He also has 34 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers.
In the Face-Off Circle: Brockport's two-time SUNYAC All-Conference face-off man
Ethan Stiles returns to the circle this season as one of the top FOGO men in the region. He has twice been named SUNYAC All-Conference Second Team for the Golden Eagles. In 24 career games he has won 235 face-offs for a .540%. He also has 81 career ground balls, including a career-high 52 back in 2019.
Between the Pipes: Fourth year starting goalie
John Felice is expected to be back in net this season for the Golden Eagles. He has ten career victories to go along with 225 saves in 24 games. Lycoming transfer
Cameron Kuzniar from Rush-Henrietta provides extremely capable depth at the position for the Golden Eagles.
All-SUNYAC Long Stick Middie: Brockport LSM
Aidan Fitzgerald was selected as an All-SUNYAC Honorable Mention for the first time in his career at the end of the 2021 season. He led the team and was second in the conference with 17 caused turnovers. He was top five in the SUNYAC with 31 ground balls.
Defense: A veteran group will lead the Brockport defense including
James Mirabell who has played in 16 games and totaled 15 caused turnovers to go along with 14 ground balls.
Luke Conway looked excellent in Brockport's preseason scrimmage against Hartwick. Veteran's
Chris Bock and
Anthony McGee will also look to have breakout seasons for Brockport.
Experienced & Deep Midfield: Max Riley,
Owen VanWie and
Rocco Santillo will lead a very deep midfield for the Golden Eagles. Riley has played in 24 games for Brockport and he has three goals and five assists to go along with 12 ground balls. VanWie and Santillo will be expected to continue their offensive production, while
Ryan McCarthy, Lynn University transfer

Jesse Donnarumma,
Blake Palozzi,
Aidan Long,
Jhovanny Olivares,
DJ Stramonine, Seton Hill transfer
Cam Kremer and
Mike O'Brien will add much needed depth at the position.
Getting it Done in the Classroom: Brockport had 25 student-athletes earn a spot on the Fall 2021 academic honor roll (3.0+). The Golden Eagles also earned a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Academic Team Award from the coaches association.
