The Brockport men's lacrosse team jumped out to a 12-2 lead at the half and cruised to a 17-5 victory against visiting SUNY Delhi in non-conference action at Bob Boozer Field on Saturday afternoon. Seven different players recorded their first goal in the green and gold including
Ethan Barrett,
Ben Hay,
Ryan McCarthy,
Jordan Testa,
Aidan Long,
Carson Colucci and
Mike O'Brien.
Patrick Sheridan led the Golden Eagles with two goals and two assists, and he now has a team-best nine points through two games.
Brockport (2-0) remains unbeaten, and returns to action on the road Tuesday when the Golden Eagles travel to local rival Nazareth College to take on the Golden Flyers at 4 p.m. Brockport Head Coach
Ben Wineburg has strong ties to the Nazareth program, spending two stints as an assistant at Naz, while also earning NCAA Division III Player of the Year honors while winning a national championship as a Golden Flyer in his undergraduate days.
17 different Brockport players registered at least one point on the day. All-Conference face-off man
Ethan Stiles won 14-of-18 chances at the x and scooped up a team-high seven ground balls.
Aidan Fitzgerald added six ground balls, while
Luke Conway caused three turnovers for the Golden Eagles.
John Felice got the win between the pipes for Brockport, while
Cameron Kuzniar,
Evan O'Connor and
John Acker each saw time in net in the second half.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Broncos 53-18 on the day, and they were 20-for-21 on clear opportunities. As a team, Brockport picked up 37 ground balls and netted two man-up goals.
Brockport rattled off the first three goals of the game from
Owen VanWie,
Rocco Santillo and
Max Riley. McCarthy assisted on VanWie's game-opening man-up goal. Delhi got one back to make it 3-1 with 4:05 left in the first before Brockport strung together seven straight goals to take a convincing 10-1 lead with 10:39 left in the second quarter.
Carson Colucci found the back of the net with 6:07 left in the first half, assisted by
Jesse Wooley, and
Mike O'Brien then added the final goal of the first half to hand the home team a convincing 12-2 lead as the halftime horn sounded.
Brockport then added the first two goals of the third quarter from the sticks of
Jordan Testa and
Ethan Barrett.
Ryan Haugh assisted on Barrett's goal, which gave Brockport a 14-2 lead with 9:40 left in the third.
Delhi netted two straight to make it 14-4, until the Golden Eagles rattled off three straight goals from Barrett,
Jack Peterson and
Ben Hay to close out the scoring for Brockport.
Nate Askin assisted on Barrett's second goal of the day, while
Jordan Testa and
Jesse Wooley assisted on Brockport's final two goals.
Peterson finished the day with two goals, and he now has a team-best seven goals on the year. Nine Golden Eagles registered multi-point games, including Sheridan (two goals, two assists), McCarthy (one goal, two assists), Peterson (two goals),
