Softball Starts Week on the Road Against the U of R

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport softball team is on the road Wednesday to start another busy week. Brockport travels to take on the University of Rochester for a 3 pm start for a non-conference doubleheader.
 
Weekend Action: On Friday the Golden Eagles will be back on their home field for a SUNYAC matchup against Fredonia. That pair of games will begin at 3 pm at the Clark V. Whited Complex. Buffalo State comes to town for another conference doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 pm. It is Senior Day, as we celebrate our group of seniors in their final home game of the regular season.
 
Last Outing: The Green and Gold fell to New Paltz in both games of a doubleheader at home last weekend. The Hawks took game one, 5-1, and game two, 9-1. Brockport moved to 9-11 overall and 2-6 in SUNYAC play.
 
Working at the Plate: Madison Evarts and Emily Willis-Nersinger are both hitting over .400 on the season so far. Evarts is batting .417 and leads the team with 15 runs scored. Willis-Nersinger owns a .421 batting average and has recorded 11 RBIs. Olivia Hayden is first on the team with 24 hits to go with a .375 average and 11 runs scored. Annie Dipirro leads the Green and Gold with 12 RBIs and is a .351 hitter on the season. Cameryn Duggan is batting .364 and has 10 RBIs to go with five extra base hits. Emma DeJesus is hitting .327 and also has knocked in 10 RBIs.
 
Owning the Circle: Hali Jenner (3-4) has made six starts in the circle, throwing a team-high 37.1 innings pitched for a 3.00 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Catherine Johnson (1-4) has thrown four complete games in five starts and leads the pitching staff with 31 strikeouts. Julia Palopoli (2-1) has struck out 19 batters in 24.2 innings of work and owns a 2.55 ERA.
 
U of R Matchup: The University of Rochester is 12-12 overall with a 6-0 record in the Liberty League conference. The Yellowjackets are on a 10-game winning streak heading into Wednesday's doubleheader with Brockport. They defeated RIT 24-12 and 11-0 for a sweep last weekend. With a .402 average, 33 hits, and 21 RBIs, #8 Ally Kim is the team's leading hitter. #16 Emily Sharlach is 3-5 in 11 starts in the circle, striking out 32 batters. Brockport swept the U of R back in 2016 in the last meeting between the teams, earning wins of 9-6 and 4-1.
 
Looking at Fredonia: Fredonia comes into the week with a record of 7-19 overall and 4-5 in the SUNYAC. The Blue Devils split with Buffalo State in their last matchup, but are just 1-7 over their last eight games. #23 Amber Piniewski leads the team with 28 hits and has a .359 average at the plate. #7 Emily Chelius is 6-11 in 20 appearances in the circle, which includes 15 starts. Brockport was 2-2 against Fredonia last season, splitting both the home and road doubleheader.
 
Against Buffalo State: Entering the week, the Buffalo State Bengals are 9-17 overall and 3-7 in the conference. They split against Fredonia last week in a home doubleheader. #19 Caitlyn Parsons and #0 Oriana Castello are both hitting just below .400 on the season and have combined for 23 RBIs. Brockport split with Buffalo State in both doubleheaders in the 2021 season.
 
Strike Out Cancer Game: The Golden Eagles will be taking on Oneonta on Monday, April 25th for their Strike Out Cancer game. The team will wear its pink Strike Out Cancer shirts to show support for all those effected by this disease. This SUNYAC doubleheader will be played at Onondaga Community College out in Syracuse, NY for a 3 pm start.
