Softball Closes Out Regular Season With Pair of Crucial Road Matchups This Weekend

Brockport, NY – With the SUNYAC Tournament right around the corner, the SUNY Brockport softball team looks to make a final push for a postseason spot on the final weekend of the regular season. Brockport heads to Oswego on Friday for a 3 pm start to the two-game set and then goes to Cortland for a 12 pm start to Saturday's doubleheader.
 
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles split with Oneonta in a neutral site doubleheader the last time they took the field. They lost game one of the set, 9-2, before stealing game two, 6-5, thanks to a Hannah Jacobs walk-off RBI. Brockport takes the split to move to 11-17 overall and 4-10 in the SUNYAC.
 
SUNYAC Picture: Here are the SUNYAC standings heading into the final weekend of the regular season: 1. Geneseo (13-1), 2. Oneonta (12-4), 3. Cortland (11-3), 4. New Paltz (11-5), 5. Plattsburgh (7-7), 6. Fredonia (6-8), 7. Brockport (4-10), 8. Buffalo State (4-10), 9. Oswego (4-10), 10. Potsdam (0-14). With the top four teams already clinching their postseason spots, only two seeds remain. Brockport needs to win all four games this weekend and get help from teams around the SUNYAC to snag a playoff spot.
 
Duggan Stays Hot: Cameryn Duggan is currently on a six-game hitting streak, which includes four straight games with multiple hits. In this stretch she has batted 12-for-19, with nine runs scored, five doubles, and one RBI. Duggan is leading the squad with her career-high .405 batting average, which ranks sixth in the SUNYAC. She has also recorded career-highs this year across the board with 32 hits, 20 runs, 12 RBIs, and nine doubles.
 
Hitting Streaks: Annie Dipirro is also a on six-game hitting streak, batting 8-for-21 with two doubles and seven RBIs. Dipirro is batting .350 on the year, registering career-highs of 28 hits and 19 RBIs. Olivia Hayden has a hit in five consecutive games, going 7-for-19 in that span with four runs scored. She is hitting .352 this season on the way to racking up career-high numbers of 32 hits, 15 runs, and nine RBIs.
 
Working at the Plate: Currently second on the team with 16 RBIs, Emily Willis-Nersinger has knocked in five runs over the past four games. She is batting .333 on the season, connecting for 19 hits in 57 at-bats. Hannah Jacobs has come up big with two walk-off at-bats in Brockport's last four games. She drove in the game-winning run in wins against Buffalo State and Oneonta. Jacobs is batting .314 on the season. Emma DeJesus has been a staple in the lineup, hitting .288 this year with career-highs of 21 hits and 10 RBIs.
 
Throwing Heat: Catherine Johnson (3-5) has been the most active pitcher for the Green and Gold with 49.2 innings pitched. With 52 strikeouts on the season, she is ranked ninth in the SUNYAC conference. Freshman Hali Jenner (3-6) has a team-leading eight starts in the circle in her first year. Jenner has pitched 44.2 innings and thrown three complete games, including one shutout. Julia Palopoli (2-2) has thrown 36.2 innings to rack up 27 strikeouts and earn a 3.44 ERA.
 
Battle of the Green & Gold: Oswego heads into Friday's battle with a 9-22 record overall and a 4-10 mark in the SUNYAC. The Lakers are coming off an impressive 8-0 win over Plattsburgh their last time out. #13 Zoe Mennig is batting .450 on the year which ranks second in the conference. #12 Fiona Higgins is leading the SUNYAC with 116 strikeouts as Oswego's top pitcher. In four games last year, Brockport and Oswego split for a 2-2 record against each other.
 
Scouting Cortland: The Cortland Red Dragons are 20-12 overall and 11-3 in the conference heading into the weekend. They have won three in a row and already clinched a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament. #19 Halle Wright leads the conference with her .484 batting average and #13 Lizzy Byers leads the SUNYAC with 38 RBIs. The two teams have played since the 2019 season, which saw Cortland win both matchups.
 
SUNYACs Ahead: This weekend will conclude regular season play across the conference, as seeding for the SUNYAC Tournament becomes finalized. The Golden Eagles are fighting this weekend to get into the postseason, which is scheduled to begin May 5th.
