Dani Drews Accepts Position as Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation at SUNY Geneseo

SUNY Geneseo has named former Brockport Associate Director of Athletics and Compliance Dani Drews its next Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.

Drews becomes only the third athletic director in the last 20 years at Geneseo, succeeding Mike Mooney, who announced his retirement following 37 years of service to Geneseo.

"We're excited for Dani to take on a new opportunity and we appreciate everything she has done for our Golden Eagle community," said Brockport Director of Athletics Erick Hart. "She has helped us to implement countless initiatives that have benefited Brockport immensely. We wish her the best and look forward to continuing to work alongside her as a member of the SUNYAC Conference."

Drews spent the last five years as the Assistant Director of Athletics at Brockport and was recently promoted to Associate Athletic Director this past academic year. While with the Golden Eagles, Drews was honored with the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Service (2022). She served as a member of the Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Assessment Team, developed strategic planning framework for the department, helped to develop crowdfunding platforms for all of Brockport's athletic teams and served on multiple search committees outside of the athletic department.

"As you can imagine, it is a bittersweet moment for me to have the opportunity of my professional career, but with the requirement that I leave a place and people that I love," said Drews. "I have grown so much from having the chance to work with the staff and student-athletes at Brockport. I would not have this opportunity if not for the great people and experience I've had as a Golden Eagle. For that, I will always be indebted."

Drews' tenure marks her second stint as an athletic director, serving in the same role at The Sage Colleges from 2005 to 2017. While at Sage, Drews led an expansion within the department increasing the athletic programs from five to 15 in 2012, adding nearly 150 student-athletes to the institution while significantly increasing tuition revenue. With the department growth, Drews also added 12 full-time staff members to the department during her tenure. Under Drews, Sage Athletics also executed renovations of many athletic facilities, including two fitness centers, two varsity gymnasiums and an athletic training room. She also created 'Sage Nation,' an athletics booster club designed to connect with former student-athletes.

Drews' first day at Geneseo is scheduled for July 7th, 2022.
