Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team is on the road Tuesday night to start the week filled with three matches. Brockport travels to Houghton for a 7pm start.
Beginning SUNYAC Play: The Golden Eagles will also begin SUNYAC competition this weekend with two home matches. They welcome New Paltz for a 6pm start on Friday to begin conference play. On Saturday the squad takes on Oneonta for a 1pm match in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium.
Weekend Recap: Brockport went down to Greenville, PA last weekend to compete at the Thiel College Tournament. On day one, the team defeated the host team Thiel, 3-0, in a sweep. Against Alma College on day two, Brockport would earn another 3-0 victory. With a 3-1 loss to Grove City in the final match of the weekend, the Green and Gold moved its record to 8-3 overall.
Thompson Goes Back-to-Back: Jordan Thompson was named the SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in a row this week. a career-high nine service aces against the Tigers. She managed a .250 hitting percentage and her 43 kills in 14 sets averaged her for 3.07 kills per set. Thompson now leads the SUNYAC in points (181.5), points per set (4.5), kills (131), kills per set (3.27), service aces (36) and service aces per set (0.90).
Bowen's Weekly Award: Madalyn Bowen helped Brockport sweep the weekly awards with her selection for SUNYAC Women's Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week. Bowen recorded a total of 79 digs in four matches this past week. The defensive specialist/libero had a season-high 27 digs against Thiel on Friday night. After the weekend, Bowen now leads the SUNYAC in digs per set averaging 5.06. Her 162 digs this season ranks her second in the conference.
Threats at the Net: Andrea Coyle is second on the team with 129 kills on the season, averaging 3.23 kills per set. Coyle has also contributed 19 aces, 143 digs, and 14 block assists for Brockport. With 74 kills and 35 total blocks,
Myah Frostclapp is a force from her middle blocker position. Frostclapp leads the team in both solo blocks (4), block assists (31), and ranks third in the SUNYAC in total blocks.
Setting the Table: Kerri McHale and
Ashley Allen have both been efficient from the setter role this season. McHale leads the way with 235 assists, ranking third in the conference. Allen is behind her with 137 assists this season. As a team the Golden Eagles are second in the SUNYAC with 436 total assists.
Aces are Wild: Brockport has gained advantages with strong serving from multiple players so far in 2022, resulting in 107 aces already this year (2
nd in the SUNYAC). With 36 service aces,
Jordan Thompson has already set a new career-high and continues to build upon it.
Andrea Coyle has 19 aces, already just three away from last season's total.
Kerri McHale and
Madalyn Bowen each have 14 aces so far.
Opponent Summary: Houghton College is currently on a four-match losing streak heading into Tuesday night's non-conference battle with Brockport. The Highlanders are 2-7 overall on the season so far. The Hawks from New Paltz have gotten off to a hot start at 8-1 overall. They are 1-0 in SUNYAC play after defeating Oneonta, 3-0. At 5-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference, Oneonta takes on Geneseo on Friday before Saturday's match with Brockport.
