BROCKPORT, NY – The SUNY Brockport field hockey team is set for two games this week as they'll travel to face Houghton College on the road on Tuesday, September 27
th at 7:00 pm before heading to New Paltz to face the Hawks on Saturday, October 1
st at 1:00 pm for a conference matchup against the defending SUNYAC champions.
Ithaca Recap: This past week the Golden Eagles split both of their games going 1-1. The team's one win last week came against Ithaca College in the team's second Ovarian Cancer Awareness game with saw Brockport defeat the Bombers 2-1. It was the first time since 2011 that the Golden Eagles had defeated the Bombers. A large part of the team's success came from goalkeeper
Ella Buchanan who recorded a career-high 31 saves in the game against Ithaca.
Gianna Salerno scored the tying goal in the game before
Bailey Lazore recorded the game-winning goal for the Golden Eagles.
Cortland Recap: Against No. 19 Cortland, Brockport fell 4-1 but showed great defensive play as Buchanan recorded 17 saves in the game while
Emma Acevedo recorded two defensive saves against the Red Dragons. Lazore scored the only goal in the team's first conference match as well.
Offensive Leaders: Bailey Lazore leads Brockport's offense as she has recorded seven goals and one assist for 15 points ranking her third in the conference in goals and points with those numbers. Behind her is
Katelynn Mello who has tallied 10 points from three goals and four assists.
D-Saves: Defensively
Mary Young is Brockport's team leader in defensive saves as she has prevented three goals from scoring as they've gotten past the keeper. Next to her are Acevedo,
Justine Draper, and
Jillian Owens whom all have two defensive saves this season.
Goalie Stats: In goal,
Ella Buchanan ranks second in the conference with 66 saves with 1.80 goals against average. Her .846 save percentage also ranks her second in the conference in that statistical category.
Looking at Houghton: The Highlanders are 6-2 to start off the season and are currently on a four-game winning streak while 3-0 in the Empire 8 conference. Houghton's most recent wins came against familiar Brockport opponents by scores of Utica (2-1), Elmira (3-0), and Keuka (3-2 OT). Houghton is led by Bekah Davie who has 16 points from seven goals and two assists while Jace Hunzinger ranks second on the team with three goals and nine assists for 15 points. in the cage, Madison Tadusz has started in all eight games for Houghton where she's allowed 13 goals, making 33 saves for 1.66 goals against average and a 0.717 save percentage.
Looking at New Paltz: The Hawks are 5-1 to start the season and recently defeated Oswego State in its first conference match of the year by a score of 4-1. Natasia Plunkett leads New Paltz offense with 11 points from five goals and one assist while Hanna Ackerman and Shannon Bernhardt both have nine points. Ackerman with two goals and five assists while Bernhardt has three goals and three assists. Davin Testo has started in all six of New Platz's games in the cage where the goalkeeper has allowed seven goals, making 22 saves for 1.51 goals against average and a 0.759 save percentage.
