Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport indoor women's track and field placed second at the Utica Winter Opener on Saturday. The team scored a total of 100 points, finishing just eight points behind the winning squad from Felician.
The Brockport throwers dominated, scoring 34 total points across the weight throw and shot put events.
Sarah Crockett led the charge with first place in both throwing competitions. She threw a 12.85 in the shot put and a 15.57 in the weight throw.
Emma Kinnicutt was second in the weight throw event, earning a mark of 14.92 meters. Freshman
Katrina Chandler threw a distance of 13.18 meters for ninth place.
In the shot put Brockport's
Trinity Dees,
Emma Kinnicutt, and
Katrina Chandler placed sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively. Dees recorded an 11.03, Kinnicutt threw a 10.84, and Chandler had a 10.70.
The Golden Eagles took 22 points from the 5000-meter race, with three top five runners.
Kerry Flower ran a 18:07.75 to finish first in the event. Leah Siegman (19:48.10) was second and teammate
Olivia Furman (20:20.60) took fifth.
In the women's mile,
Veronica Dailey snagged a couple points with an eighth place finish of 5:25.49.
Marissa Wise was just 0.01 behind the first-place runner from Utica in the 60-meter dash. Wise ran an 8.09 to take second in the finals.
Sarah Levine scored a point in the event, running a 8.72 for eighth.
Jennifer Metz ran a 2:28.66 and Clara Sensini clocked in at 2:29.18 to finish fifth and sixth in the 800-meter.
In the 3000-meter,
Sarah Davis placed fourth with a time of 10:55.06. Teammate
Lauren Yonko grabbed a point by taking eighth with a time of 11:97.73.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Kaylee Haynes, Clara Sensini,
Meredith Masker, and
Jennifer Metz ran a 4:16.64 to place third.
Mia Montgomery took home the top spot from the long jump with a distance of 5.16 meters. In the high jump,
Sarah Killip cleared 1.47 meters to take fourth.
The Golden Eagles will host their next meet, the Winter Welcome Back to Brockport Meet. The action is scheduled for Saturday, January 21
st at The SERC.
