Ithaca, NY – The SUNY Brockport gymnastics squad started the season off with an incredibly tight victory over Ithaca, 187.625-187.425. Brockport begins the season 1-0 in dual competition.
With the win on Sunday, the program has now won 17 consecutive dual meets in a row, dating back to March of 2020.
Kyra Figurelli had a great start to the new season, placing first individually in two separate events. She had the highest score of the day on the vault and the floor exercise, posting a 9.725 in both.
Rachel Swick's score of 9.575 was good for the second best on the uneven parallel bars at the meet. On the balance beam,
Sydney Schumaker's 9.550 tied for third best on the day.
The Golden Eagles started the meet with a 45.025 on the bars, their lowest event score of the meet.
Rachel Swick posted the best score for Brockport on the bars with her 9.575.
Gabbi Gare stepped up to notch a score of 9.350, while
Taylor Bushey scored a 9.150 on the uneven parallel bars. Schumaker registered an 8.600, Sargent had 8.350, and
Aladiana Tosado put up a 7.700.
Brockport earned a slight edge in the vault, 48.100-47.025. Figurelli's 9.725 set the high for the team's lineup.
Maren Eramo was next for the squad with a 9.650 for the event.
Lauren Blair scored a 9.600 on the vault, while
Laken Sooy registered a 9.575.
Emma Grace Sargent added her mark of 9.550, while
Sydney Schumaker's 9.425 rounded out the vault lineup.
Following the first two rotations with the vault and bars, Brockport had a slim lead on the running score, 93.125-92.550.
Up next the Green and Gold took to the floor exercise, where the team earned a total score of 47.650. Ithaca scored a 47.050 on the floor, just 0.600 fewer in a very close contest.
Kyra Figurelli's 9.725 was the standard on the floor on Sunday.
Natalie Galioto and
Maya Pecoraro posted scores of 9.575 and 9.500 respectively.
Kirsten Paultre earned a 9.450, while both
Emmie White and
Laken Sooy scored a 9.400.
After the third rotation, the Golden Eagles held a 140.775-140.375 lead before the final events began. It all came down to their performance on the balance beam.
Brockport was given a team score of 46.850 on the beam, giving the squad just enough to hold on for the victory.
Sydney Schumaker's 9.550 was the team-high score on the beam on Sunday.
Emmie White's go at the event resulted in a score of 9.400. Galioto's 9.350 would be the third best for Brockport on the beam.
Needing every point to get the win,
Maya Pecoraro put up a 9.325 on the balance beam. Teammates
Olivia Stinnette and
Miranda LaRobardiere contributed scores of 9.225 and 9.200.
The final results gave Brockport the win by just 0.200 points in the season opener.
The Golden Eagles are back in action next weekend at the Ursinus Tri-Meet down in Collegeville, PA at 1pm on Sunday.
