Gymnastics to Clash with Ursinis & Ithaca at Ursinis Tri-Meet on Sunday

Brockport, NY – The Brockport Golden Eagles will head to Pennsylvania for the Ursinus Tri-Meet. This meet is the Golden Eagles first visit to the Bears since 2017, and will also feature a familiar face in Ithaca. The meet is scheduled to start at 1pm on Sunday, January 22nd.

Extending the Streak: Last week Brockport visited Ithaca to open the regular season. The Golden Eagles narrowly edged the Bombers by a score of 187.625-187.425 in a meet that saw both programs set records for scoring in a season opener. The win extended Brockport's regular season win streak in duals to 17 in a row, going back to March 8th, 2020 at Cortland.

Rotation Order:
Brockport – Bars, Beam, Floor, Vault
Ithaca – Beam, Floor, Vault, Bars
Ursinus – Vault, Bars, Beam, Floor

Vault: Brockport opened the season posting the second highest vault score in Division III to start the season with a 48.100. That second rotation score helped the Golden Eagles overcome an early deficit against the Bombers last week, after a tough first rotation for Brockport. Senior Kyra Figurelli won the event to lead Brockport, posting a 9.725. Figurelli is one of only three gymnasts in the NCGA to hit a vault over 9.700 so far this season. Junior Maren Eramo posted a 9.650 for third place, and senior Lauren Blair scored a 9.600 for fourth in the event.

Uneven Bars: The bad news, it was certainly not the cleanest day for Brockport on the bars who posted a 45.025 in the event last week. Golden Eagle fans might have had some déjà vu to last year's season opener where the team had it's struggles on the bars. The good news, last year's team also set a school record on the bars later in the season. Brockport posted the second highest team bar score at nationals in a critical final rotation to help secure second place, and had an individual national champion. Senior Rachel Swick led the team with a 9.575 to secure second place on the event. Senior Gabbi Gare & junior Taylor Bushey each posted scores above 9.000.

Beam: Although beam may not have hit as well as Brockport ultimately hopes, upgrading routines requires a learning curve when applying them to a meet. A 46.850 is hardly the worst outcome in the world for a season opening meet, in fact it's only .125 points lower than how the team opened last season. Every routine on the beam last week was a 9.200 or higher. Junior Sydney Schumaker led the way for the Golden Eagles, posting a 9.550 and tying for third on the event. Senior Emmie White tied for sixth on the event posting a 9.400.

Floor: Helping lead the Golden Eagles to a team score of 47.650, senior and defending individual floor champion, Kyra Figurelli picked up right where she left off. She took first in the event with a 9.725 on the day. All of Brockport's routines hit the 9.400 mark or higher. Junior Natalie Galioto took third on the event with a 9.575 while sophomore Maya Pecoraro rounded out the top five with a 9.500.

About Ithaca: Ithaca opened the season at home last week, dropping a nail-biter against Brockport 187.425-187.625. The Bombers set a program record for their highest score in a season opener during that meet. Senior Cameryn Nichols helped lead the way for Ithaca, winning the beam event, and taking second on the floor. She did have her struggles on bars, however you can't rely on that happening each week as she hit a 9.400 and up four times last year. Senior Zoe Kyriakopoulos posted a 9.700 to win the bars and a 9.625 on the beam to take second. Sophomore Kaylie Goodwin competed in the all-around last week posting a 36.300 and providing counted scores on vault, bars and beam.

About Ursinus: The Bears opened their season by visiting SUNY Cortland last weekend winning 185.800-184.500. Sophomore Isabella Scarpetti won the all-around at the event posting a 37.200 and providing the team with four counted scores. Ursinus was led by their vault, which tied last years season high with a 47.375, with sophomore Erin Stubbs taking second in the event, posting a 9.575.

Up Next: Brockport will prepare for their home-opener next week against Ithaca and Springfield. The meet will be on Saturday, Jan. 28th at the Tuttle North Gymnastics Center.
