Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday for a road matchup against Cortland. Tip-off is set for 4pm.
2-0 Weekend: The Golden Eagles are now the winners of three in a row after winning two conference battles at home over the weekend. They first defeated Geneseo, 62-61, in a tight finish. On Saturday, the team then took down Fredonia, 95-74. Brockport is now 10-3 overall and 5-1 in the SUNYAC.
Recent Performances: In the blowout victory over the Blue Devils from Fredonia, five players hit double figures in the scoring column.
Tony Arnold was one of three players to score 19 points in the contest. Arnold was efficient offensively going 4-for-6 from the field, 2-for-2 from deep, and 9-for-10 at the line. He also dished out five assists and came up with four steals.
David Grady III and
Mekhi Beckett both shot well on the way to 19 points each. DGIII was 7-for-12 from the floor and 5-for-6 on free throws. Beckett did his damage from deep with a 4-for-7 effort from long range.
Colby Jordan tied his season-highs of 11 points and seven rebounds. He shot a healthy 7-for-8 at the charity stripe. Freshman
Zachary Rice hit double-digits for just the second time in his career, posting a career-high 11 points.
Against Geneseo it was
Mekhi Beckett who led the way with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
Tony Arnold was close behind with 15 points to go with team-highs of nine boards and four assists.
David Grady III also neared a double-double like his teammates, posting 11 points and eight rebounds on the night. Brockport did not allow the Knights to score a single point in the final two minutes of regulation to hold on for the win.
Rematch with Cortland: Brockport's only conference loss of the season so far came against the Cortland Red Dragons, 63-60, back on December 3
rd. Undefeated at home, Cortland is 12-2 overall and 7-0 in the SUNYAC this year.
Averaging a double-double at 22.6 points and 10.8 boards a game, Cortland's Austin Grunder leads the conference in scoring and is second in rebounding. He finished with 21 and 12 in the last matchup.
Jahidi Wallace posted a double-double for the Green and Gold with 20 points and 10 boards.
Tony Arnold and
David Grady III combined for 33 points as the two other double-digit scorers for the squad.
Brockport made it a 61-60 game with 19 seconds left, but Cortland made a clutch pair of free throws to close out the game. The team looks to hand the Red Dragons their first conference loss of the season.
