Field Hockey Looks to Extend Winning Streak With a Pair of Road Games

Brockport, NY - The Brockport field hockey team will look ahead to a pair of road contests, beginning with a non-conference clash with the University of Rochester on Wednesday, October 18th. The Golden Eagles will then head to Morrisville to battle the Mustangs on Saturday, October 21st at 5pm.

Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles went 2-0 the past week, defeating Elmira 10-0 in dominant fashion before grinding out a 1-0 SUNYAC win at home against Oswego State. Five different Golden Eagles recorded a goal in a well-rounded performance against Elmira, with the Golden Eagles outshooting the Soaring Eagles 32-to-3 (23-to-2 SOG). Bailey Lazore finished with seven points and a hat trick in the contest, with Ella Buchanan and Katelynn Banning making a save each in a shutout effort. Paige Thowe and Quinn Guy both contributed five points each in the blowout win.

Against Oswego, the Golden Eagles' defense ensured Emmalee Moore's seventh goal of the season would be more than enough for the victory. Ella Buchanan turned in possibly her best performance of the season, securing her third full 60-minute shutout making seven saves. Brockport improved to 10-4 overall and 2-2 in SUNYAC play following last week's action.

Athlete of the Week: Ella Buchanan was named the SUNYAC Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday. She came up with eight saves for the Golden Eagles across back-to-back shutouts in net. This is the second time Buchanan has earned this honor this year.

New Standard: Following the 1-0 win against Oswego, the Green and Gold secured the program's first 10-win season since 2011. Brockport's 10-win season also marks the first for Head Coach Krista Archambeau, as she continues to elevate the Brockport Field Hockey program to new heights.

She's On Fire: In addition to the Golden Eagles' 3-game win streak, junior Emmalee Moore has been riding her own hot streak as of late. Moore has recorded a point or better in each of her last four games, accumulating four goals and an assist (9 points) across those four games. With three shots each against Elmira and Oswego, Moore has also recorded multiple shots in all 14 games on the year.

SUNYAC Outlook: Listed below are the current SUNYAC standings (as of Monday, October 16th)
  1. Cortland- 1 (12-1) (5-0)
  2. Geneseo- (9-4) (3-1)
  3. New Paltz- (9-4) (3-1)
  4. Brockport- (10-4) (2-2)
  5. Oneonta- (6-8) (1-3)
  6. Oswego- (5-10) (1-3)
  7. Morrisville- E (1-13) (0-5)
Scouting Rochester: The Yellowjackets have been strong in 2023, posting a 10-6 record with a 3-2 mark in Liberty League play. Rochester has found its success on the back of strong goaltending, with sophomore Kara Houston having a strong season. Houston has saved over 83% of the shots she's faced while allowing just 0.78 goals per game. The Golden Eagles will look to end the Yellowjackets 13-game winning streak in the head-to-head series.

Scouting Morrisville: The Mustangs have not fared well in 2023, holding a 1-13 overall record as they continue to search for their first SUNYAC win (0-5). Morrisville's lone victory came back on October 1st against Maine-Farmington at home, 2-1. The Golden Eagles will enter Saturday's contest looking to extend its 10-game winning streak against Morrisville.

Up Next: Following this week's action, the Green and Gold will look ahead to the regular season finale on the road against Geneseo on Wednesday, October 25th at 4 pm. The SUNYAC Tournament is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 1st, following the conclusion of next week's games.
