Brockport, NY – In the home opener for the Golden Eagle women's lacrosse team, Brockport defeated RIT, 14-13. They improve to 1-1 on the season following the close victory.

Bryana Glasser picks up her first win as the leader of the program at Brockport.
Cassidy Burnash scored a career-high six goals on the day, leading the way for the offense. She scored on all six of her shot attempts and picked up a pair of ground balls.
Courtney Cunningham also had a big day, registering a hat trick with three goals. She also led the squad with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. Teammate
Alayna Foos also had a hat trick with three scores to go with four ground balls.
Courtney Bednarz assisted twice on scores for the Green and Gold.
Paige Thowe recorded one score and one assist, while
Julia Quinlan netted one goal of her own.
Playing 55:27 of action in net,
Erin Lant picks up her first win of the season and made eight saves.
Burnash got the Golden Eagles going early with a pair of unassisted goals in the first quarter. RIT responded with a pair of scores as the teams went back and forth. Foos and Quinlan both got on the board in the first, giving Brockport a 4-3 lead going into the second.
The visiting Tigers struck first in the second to tie the game, but the score wouldn't stay tied for long.
Cassidy Burnash completed her hat trick and added one more to put Brockport up 6-4 at the half.
Coming out of the break, RIT caught fire with six unanswered goals in the third quarter. The Tigers would take a 10-6 lead after the big run, as Brockport's offense stalled.
Courtney Cunningham would break up the momentum with a score, sparking a quick run for the Golden Eagles.
Burnash, Thowe, and Foos all followed up with scores of their own later in the third quarter to tie the game at 10-10. RIT scored its seventh of the period, to retake a 11-10 advantage heading into the fourth.
Early on in the final quarter, Cunningham completed her hat trick with two key goals that gave Brockport a 1-goal lead. However, RIT would quickly answer to tie the score up once again at 12-12.
With 7:45 left in regulation,
Alayna Foos broke the tie to put the home team up 13-12. Soon after, Burnash stepped up to net her sixth score of the game to make it a 14-12 lead. The Tigers found one more score in the fourth, but were denied the equalizer by
Erin Lant in the final minutes.
Brockport battled right to the end in order to pull out the 14-13 win at home, moving back to .500 early in the year.
The Golden Eagles are back on their home turf next Wednesday, March 8
th for a date with William Smith College. The game is scheduled to begin at 4pm.
