Brockport, NY - The Brockport Field Hockey team will begin a 3-game road trip with two out-of-conference matchups this weekend. The Golden Eagles will take on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, September 9^th at 3 pm before facing off with Russell Sage on Sunday, September 10^th at 11 am.
 
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles improved their record to 2-0 following a 5-0 shutout win over visiting Nazareth University. Paige Thowe had the Green and Gold off to a hot start, finding paydirt 55 seconds into the contest to put Brockport up 1-0. Kelsey Zehr doubled the advantage for Brockport 7:10 into the first period with her first goal of the season, before Gianna Salerno scored the first of her two goals of the game to put the Golden Eagles ahead 3-0 in the 2^nd period. A goal from Quinn Guy in the 4^th along with Salerno's second goal would round out the scoring for Brockport in the 5-0 victory. The Golden Eagles dominated nearly all fascists in the contest, outshooting the Wolves 20-1 in shots on goal. Goalie Ella Buchanan earned her second shutout win of the young season. The win on Wednesday marked 4 straight victories for Brockport against Keuka head-to-head.
 
Defensive Zone Dominance: The Golden Eagles' defenders have been the primary catalysts for the early success in the 2023 season. Defenders Skye Exware, Mary Young, Abby Chalmers, and Jillian Owens have been phenomenal in limiting chances and shots on goalie Ella Buchanan, in addition to creating turnovers to transition quickly into scoring chances for the offense. Through two games, the Green and Gold defense has allowed just 5 shots (2 SOG), with goalie Ella Buchanan holding a 1.0 SV% in 120 minutes of game action.
 
Starting Off Hot: Five Golden Eagles have begun the year with more points than games played. These players include Bailey Lazore (5), Emmalee Moore (4), Gianna Salerno (4), Quinn Guy (3), and Paige Thowe (3). Lazore and Salerno led the team with two goals each, while Moore is tops on the team with two assists.
 
Scouting RPI: RPI has gotten off to a 0-3 start, most recently losing 3-1 against Hamilton College at home last Tuesday. RPI and Brockport have met just 3 times since 2003 with the Golden Eagles taking two of the 3 head to head matchups. Brockport will look to avenge the 4-1 loss at home at the hands of RPI last season.
 
Scouting Sage: The Gators opened the 2023 season with a 3-0 road loss against Union College and look to improve from their 2-13 record in 2022. In the rare meetings between Brockport and Russell Sage, Brockport has dominated, winning 10-0 in the 2021 meeting and winning all 3 head to head matchups by a combined score of 18-0.
