Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport gymnastics team opened up the season with a close win over Ithaca at home on Saturday. The Golden Eagles edged past the Bombers, 189.525-188.475, to open the year 1-0.
Brockport gained most of its advantage from the uneven parallel bars and the floor exercise. The team's best mark of the day was a 48.250 on the floor. On the bars the Green and Gold scored a team total of 47.275.
On the vault, the two teams saw a tight score with Ithaca getting a slight edge for the event. The Bombers had a 47.250 on the vault compared to 47.150 from the Green and Gold. Ithaca's Nicole Lonski scored a 9.725 for first place on the vault, while
Maren Eramo's 9.700 was second in the event to lead Brockport.
The Golden Eagles registered the top two scores of the day during their rotation on the bars.
Rachel Swick was the event winner, posting the high score of 9.775. Teammate
Taylor Bushey finished second on the bars with a score of 9.650.
The balance beam was all Ithaca on the day, as the away team recorded each of the top four scores on the beam. Kaylie Goodwin was the event winner for the beam with a score of 9.800.
Natalie Galioto paced the Brockport effort in the competition, putting up a 9.525 (5
th).
While Ithaca's Grace Murray had the highest score on the floor exercise (9.775), Brockport had a pair of gymnasts tie for second.
Aladiana Tosado and
Kirsten Paultre both earned a mark of 9.725 on the floor for second place.
The Golden Eagles start the year off with a nice win at home and will be on the road for their next meet. They head to Rhode Island College on Saturday, January 20
th.
