Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport gymnastics team will travel this weekend to Providence, Rhode Island for a quad meet. Rhode Island College will be hosting Brockport, Cortland, and Springfield for a 12pm start.
Season Opener: The Golden Eagles hosted Ithaca College last week in a dual meet to open up the 2024 season. With a final team score of 189.525, they defeated the Bombers that posted a 188.475. Brockport gained most of its advantage from the uneven parallel bars and the floor exercise. The team's best mark of the day was a 48.250 on the floor. On the bars the Green and Gold scored a team total of 47.275.
Top Performers: Rachel Swick was the lone event winner for Brockport, taking first place on the bars at the meet. She posted a 9.775 to win the event, with teammate
Taylor Bushey placing second on the bars with a 9.650.
Maren Eramo nearly won the vault for the Green and Gold with a 9.700, as her second place score was 0.025 behind the event winner from Ithaca. On the balance beam,
Natalie Galioto paced the Brockport effort in the competition with a 9.525 for fifth place.
Brockport's floor exercise lineup provided two gymnasts that tied for second place in the event. Both
Aladiana Tosado and
Kirsten Paultre scored a 9.725 on the floor. The duo finished behind only Ithaca's first-place score of 9.775.
All-Around: Lienna Kay was the only gymnast last weekend for both teams to compete in all four events. She earned an all-around score of 37.575 on the day. She started off with a 9.325 on the vault, before scoring a 9.375 on the bars and beam. Kay posted her best score of the day on the floor, closing the meet out with a 9.500.
This Weekend's Competition: Last year Brockport fared well against its trio of opponents on the schedule for Saturday's quad meet. The squad went 3-0 against both Cortland and Rhode Island last year. The one time Brockport crossed paths with Springfield, the Green and Gold got the win, 190.925-187.025. The team looks to continue its dominance from last season this weekend.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will travel again next weekend for yet another quad meet. They head to West Chester University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, January 27
th. Brockport will compete against West Chester, Cortland, and Ithaca at 1pm.
