Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport volleyball team begins dual competition this weekend, starting Empire 8 play. The Golden Eagles will host St. John Fisher on Friday for their home opener at 6pm before going to Nazareth on Saturday for a 2pm start.
Start to the Season: So far in 2024 the Golden Eagles have been travelling on the road, competing at multiple tournament-style events. After going 3-0 most recently at the Oswego State Invitational, they are now 7-5 overall to start the year. Brockport now transitions into conference play, beginning this weekend with a pair of dual matches.
Big Hitters: Only two players for Brockport has registered 100 or more kills offensively.
Alexis Sison leads the way with 132 kills, averaging 3.22 kills per set.
Alenna Williamson has been effective as well with 105 kills.
Lauren Emke leads the Brockport attackers with a .247 hitting percentage.
Setter Rotation: This year the rotation has seen two setters on the floor facilitating to the hitters.
Kaitlyn Jewett has been the go-to starter in the role, receiving credit for 261 assists. Freshman
Lauryn Forand is the second piece of the rotation, tallying 146 assists.
Digging on Defense: Libero
Elsie Logan has been great in her role defensively so far for Brockport. With 209 digs she ranks third in the conference with her dig rate of 4.54 per set.
Alexis Sison and
Gianna Felipe have both contributed strongly as well with 110 and 108 digs respectively.
Defending the Net: A trio of Golden Eagles have totaled more than 25 total blocks defensively through the first 12 matches.
Maddy Howell has 33 to lead the squad, coming from five solo and 28 block assists. Howell currently leads the Empire 8 with an average of 0.97 blocks per set.
Lauren Emke is second with 28 total blocks (2 solo, 26 assisted) and
Alenna Williamson is third with 26 blocks (5 solo, 21 assisted).
Home Sweet Home: More than a month after the start of the 2024 season, the Green and Gold finally get to play on the home court. October 4
th at 6pm will mark the home opener for Brockport this season. The squad went an undefeated 7-0 playing at The Vlog in 2023, with its last home loss coming against Fisher (3-2) back on October 25
th, 2022.
Welcome to the Empire 8: Friday night's home contest against St. John Fisher will start a new chapter for the Brockport volleyball program. It will be the team's first-ever conference clash as a member of the Empire 8 Conference after being part of the SUNYAC for many years.
Weekend Competition: The St. John Fisher Cardinals enter the matchup with Brockport at 7-6 overall. It will be the E8 opener for both teams for the 2024 season. Fisher has won its last two matches against Buffalo State (3-2) and Johnson & Wales (3-1). The Nazareth Golden Flyers enter the weekend 5-8 overall after winning two in a row. They recently defeated Johnson & Wales (3-1) and Canton (3-0).
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will play another pair of conference matches next weekend. They first travel to face Keuka at 6pm on Friday and then host Elmira on Saturday at 1pm.
