Brockport, NY – The Golden Eagles cross country teams traveled down to Houghton University to compete in the Empire 8 Championships. The men's team came in second place overall with 50 points in the meet and the women came in fifth place with 106 points.
In the men's 8k race
Jonathan Zavala had a day coming in first for the team and placing third overall, setting a new school record time of 24:18.6.
Charlie Alekson also made his mark crossing the line at 10th place in the race and second for Brockport also with a PR of 24:29.9. Just one place later at 11th,
Patrick Klinger took third for the team with a PR at 24:55.8.
Only two places later at 13th,
Jared Smith crossed the like clinching fourth for the Golden Eagles at 25:05.9.
Sean Killip brought in a PR of 25:21.6 and took that fifth-place mark for Brockport and 17th in the race.
Miguel Benito took sixth with a PR of 25:54.4 and
Thomas Kressly took seventh place for the team with a time of 26:02.6.
Zavala, Alekson, Klinger, Smith, Killip, and Benito all earned medals for All-Conference accolades by placing inside the Top 27.
In the women's 6k race, Mia Vizcaino led the pack with a strong race. Vizcaino had a hard earned 40 second PR at 22:26.4 good for first for the team and seventh overall in the race.
Sierra Basco also made her mark on the board taking second for Brockport and 21st overall also with a PR of 23:19.0. Clinching that third-place spot for the Green and Gold and 26th overall was Julianne Wilson with a personal record of 23:27.6.
Coming in fourth for the team with a PR of 23:50.1 was Kylie Bowman and just 15 seconds later Leah Lloyd crossed the finish line securing fifth place for the team at 24:05.5.
Esther Nankumba finished just one place after Lloyd and taking sixth for the team with a PR of 24:06.1 and Maeve Robarge came in at seventh for Brockport with a mark of 24:20.6.
Vizcaino, Basco, and Wilson snagged hardware for All-Conference recognition by finishing inside the Top 27.
Coming Up Next – The Golden Eagles will take a week rest and the top runners from the 2024 season will go on to regionals and continue their season which will take place at Fredonia State on Saturday, November 16th for a 12pm start.
