Golden Eagles Soar at XC Nationals on Saturday

Terre Haute, IN -- On Saturday, the Brockport men's cross country team had three individual runners compete at the 2024 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships. Jonathan Zavala, Charlie Alekson, and Patrick Klinger each competed in the men's 8k race out in Indiana on the national stage.

Jonathan Zavala was the first Golden Eagle to cross the finish line in the final race of the season. Back at nationals for a second year in a row, Zavala placed 137th in the field on Saturday with his time of 25:25.1. Brockport's top runner greatly improved upon his national placing in 2023, where he ran a 26:34 to finish in 237th place.

Charlie Alekson ran a steady race this weekend in Indiana, progressively moving his way up the pack. Sitting at 274th out of 294 runners after the first 1k, Alekson's placing improved each checkpoint. By the end of the race he clocked in at 25:34.1 for 165th place.

Filling out the roster for Brockport on the day was Patrick Klinger's 215th place finish. He ran a 25:52.9 out in Indiana, improving upon his 288th placing after the first 1k. Klinger joined his teammates Zavala and Alekson beyond the finish line to wrap up a fantastic 2024 season.

The three men runners repeated history for the program, by giving the men's cross country team three individual national qualifiers for a second year in a row. Zavala, Alekson, and Klinger all earned All-Region honors as well this season.
