Brockport Heads to Long Island to Tipoff Against St. Joe's

Brockport, NY – The Golden Eagle men's basketball team is on the road Tuesday for one last battle before the Thanksgiving break. Brockport will head down to Long Island for a matchup with St. Joseph's University at 4:30pm.

Home Opening Loss: Brockport lost a tough battle in the home opener to Oswego on Tuesday night, 78-72. With the loss, Brockport moves to 1-4 overall on the season. Zachary Rice led the Green and Gold scoring with 16 on the night thanks to 4-for-7 shooting from long range. Jacob Oka also had an efficient game scoring, finishing with 12 points on 5-for-9 from the floor. Oka made an impact on the defensive interior as well with three blocks. The Lakers hit seven of their 12 makes from downtown in the second half to hold off Brockport's effort to comeback. Oswego did just enough to maintain its lead through the finish line for a 6-point victory.

Brockport's 1-2 Punch: Five games into the season both Zachary Rice and Tony Arnold have led the team in production on the court. Rice is Brockport's leading scorer with 16.8 points a game to go with 5.6 rebounds and 2.0 steals a game. Rice has shot well from deep shooting 43.9% from 3-point territory. Arnold's 11.2 points a night is second on the team. To go with his scoring, Tony leads the Golden Eagles in rebounds (6.4 rpg), assists (3.8 apg), and steals (3.6 spg).

The Sixth Man: Brockport's go-to player off the bench so far this season has been Alex Tavarez, the sophomore guard from Walter Panas High School. Averaging 21.0 minutes per game off the bench, Tavarez is the team's 3rd-leading scorer with 10.0 points per game. AT has also come in to contribute 2.2 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals a night.

Team Summary: Through the first five games of the season the Golden Eagles are currently scoring 81.8 points per game. They are shooting 41.4% from the field, 33.6% from long range, and 67.4% at the foul line. On the defensive side of the ball, the Green and Gold have given up an average of 86.8 points a game so far. While the squad is currently ahead on the season in the turnover margin category (+4.2 per game), Brockport has been losing the rebounding battle thus far (-6.0 per game).

Looking at St. Joe's: Tuesday will be a battle between Golden Eagles as the St. Joseph's Golden Eagles host Brockport. St. Joe's enters the game 0-4 on the season after last week's loss to Centenary University, 92-65.
