Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team will begin the 2024-25 season out in Cleveland, OH this weekend at the Case Western Reserve University Bill Sudeck Tournament. Brockport will open up the year playing SUNY Canton on Friday night at 5pm.

Clarke's Second Season: After taking the reigns for the start of last season,
Joe Clarke enters year two as the head coach of the Golden Eagles. Following a first-round exit in the postseason, Clarke now leads Brockport into a new conference. After being a fixture in the SUNYAC Tournament for many years, Brockport now joins the Empire 8 moving forward.
2023-24 Recap: Last season the team went 16-9 overall and 12-6 in conference play to earn the No. 3 seed for the SUNYAC postseason. The Golden Eagles earned a first-round home game, where they fell to No. 6 Oneonta, 75-68. Brockport had two All-SUNYAC selections (
Tony Arnold &
Caquan Wester) and two major award winners following the season (
Danny Ashley - DPOY &
Caquan Wester – ROY).
Strong Supply of Returners: Brockport is fortunate to be returning plenty of talent from last year's squad for another go around this season. This includes a strong group of seniors made of
Tony Arnold,
Colby Jordan,
Jakai White,
Milo Scheve, and
Adewale Fasanmi. Arnold started all 25 games in 2023-23, leading the team in scoring to earn an average of 12.2 points a game.
Adding more depth to the group of returners are
Zachary Rice,
Nathaniel Gordon,
Christian Amica,
Mekhi Beckett,
Alex Tavarez,
Jacob Oka, and
Demetre Burthculadze. Beckett was leading the team early last season with 13.6 points a game before his season ended early due to injury. Oka started in 23 games for the Green and Gold, while Tavarez averaged 10.3 points a game off the bench.
New Faces: The Golden Eagles will also be welcoming in some fresh faces to the roster for the new year. The incoming freshman class includes
Joseph Puccio,
Emilio Nabli,
Miles Johnson, and
Cole Harding. The team adds more experience through additions of seniors
Nico Morrison and transfer
Jakhi Lucas.
Bill Sudeck Tournament: This weekend the team will be at Case Western Reserve University's Horsburgh Gymnasium for the Bill Sudeck Tournament. Brockport will be joined in Ohio by the host CWRU, along with SUNY Canton and Penn State Behrend. Following Friday's game against Canton, Brockport will play either CWRU or PSB on Saturday. The two winning teams will play at 2pm in the tournament championship game, while the losing teams from Friday play at 12pm in the consolation game.
Coming Up: Following the tournament on opening weekend, Brockport will be back in Ohio next weekend for more action. The team will travel to face Mount Union on Friday (11/15) at 7pm and John Carroll on Saturday (11/16) at 3pm.
