Ithaca, NY – On Sunday the SUNY Brockport gymnastics team took home the first place trophy at the first-ever Empire State Collegiate Championship, hosted by Cornell University. The Golden Eagles scored a season-high of 193.025 to beat out Cornell, LIU, Ithaca, Cortland, and Utica at the meet.
Starting off on the floor, Brockport put together a fantastic showing in the event for a team score of 48.875.
Kiara Hockman and
Kirsten Paultre were two of six gymnasts to tie for fifth place on the floor. They both scored a 9.800 to lead the Green and Gold effort in the event.
Up next the Golden Eagles took to the vault, where they scored a 48.125 on the day. Hitting a 9.800,
Maren Eramo finished third among all competitors for the event. Second on the team for Brockport was
Emma Grace Sargent's vault score of 9.675, which was good for 10
th place in the event.
Moving to the uneven parallel bars, the squad combined for a score of 47.450.
Rachel Swick tied for third in the event with her routine, posting a score of 9.725.
Emma Grace Sargent placed eighth on the bars with a 9.600, while
Maren Eramo's 9.575 was tied for ninth.
Finishing the day on the balance beam, Brockport had one of its best showings of the year in the event with a 48.575. both
Natalie Galioto and Maya Pecraro posted a 9.775 to tie for ninth on the beam.
Kiara Hockman was close behind with her score of 9.750.
In the individual, all-around competition
Lienna Kay placed fourth with a score of 37.875. She finished with marks of 9.600 on the vault, 9.175 on the bars, 9.600 on the beam, and 9.500 on the floor.
The Golden Eagles are back in action next week on Sunday, February 18
th. They will compete at the Harriet Marranca Memorial Invite, hosted by Ithaca College.
