Brockport, NY – On Saturday the SUNY Brockport gymnastics team will be back home for a dual meet against Cortland. The event is scheduled for a 2pm start on February 3
rd in the Tuttle North Gymnastics Center.
Last Time Out: Last weekend the Golden Eagles competed at the West Chester Quad, hosted by West Chester University of Pennsylvania. They went 2-1 on the day, defeating both Cortland and Ithaca. The squad posted its highest team score of the season at the meet with a 192.325.
Most Recent Performances: At the West Chester Quad,
Maren Eramo scored a 9.750 to tie for first place on the vault at the meet.
Emma Grace Sargent tied for the third best score in the event, earning a 9.700.
Kirsten Paultre and
Lienna Kay weren't far behind with fifth-place scores of 9.625 on the vault.
With a 9.800 performance on the uneven bars,
Emma Grace Sargent tied with two other gymnasts for first place in the event.
Lienna Kay earned a 9.675 on the bars (6
th), while
Taylor Bushey had a 9.650 (T-7
th).
Moving on to the balance beam,
Natalie Galioto's routine was good for a score of 9.625 to earn a tie for the fourth best score in the event.
Lienna Kay had the team's second-best score on the beam, scoring a 9.600 (7
th).
Kirsten Paultre had a team-high 9.775 on the floor exercise, tying for fifth place in the event.
Natalie Galioto posted a 9.700 on the floor (T-12
th).
Rachel Swick and
Maya Pecoraro both had a 9.675 on the day in the event (T-16
th).
Road to Nationals Rankings: With an average team score of 190.075, Brockport is currently ranked fourth in the nation. The team's most recent outing provided a season-high score of 192.325, which is the third best total in the Road to Nationals standings.
Individually some gymnasts wearing the Green and Gold have earned high end rankings for their events. Coming in at third in the rankings on the bars is
Taylor Bushey's average score of 9.600. Teammate
Emma Grace Sargent's best bar score of 9.800 is second-best in the nation.
Maren Eramo is tied for fifth in the country on the vault, averaging a score of 9.675. Her season-high of 9.750 is ranked fourth.
Against Cortland: The Cortland Red Dragons have yet to compete in a dual meet this season. They have grabbed wins against Ursinus, Rhode Island, Springfield, and Ithaca in quad meet settings this year. Cortland's highest score of the season came last weekend, as the team posted a 189.350. Brockport has dominated in recent years against Cortland, defeating the Red Dragons at 26 meets in a row heading into the dual this weekend.
Looking Ahead: Following the home dual this Saturday the Golden Eagles will hit the road next week. They are set to go to Cornell University on Sunday, February 11
th at 1pm to compete at the Empire State Collegiate Championship.
