Brockport, NY – The Golden Eagles gymnastics team celebrated Senior Night in a big way on Friday. They defeated Utica University in the final regular season meet, posting a new program record score of 194.325.
With Brockport's win, 194.325-185.400, the team completes the regular season 16-1 overall. The squad has now racked up 10 consecutive wins ahead of the regional championship meet.
Following the competition on Friday night, Brockport celebrated its six seniors of this year's graduating class.
Taylor Bushey,
Marina DelVecchio,
Maren Eramo,
Natalie Galioto,
Kirsten Paultre, and
Emma Grace Sargent were all recognized at the end of the meet.
However, before the team celebrated its seniors, the Golden Eagles went to work in their home gym.
Starting off on the vault, Brockport earned a total score of 48.475 with five of the top six scores.
Emma Grace Sargent and
Maren Eramo both posted a 9.825 in the event to tie for second.
Natalie Galioto hit a 9.650 for fourth,
Lienna Kay scored a 9.600 for fifth, and
Gracie Weaver nailed a 9.575 for sixth.
Moving over to the bars in the second rotation, Brockport scored a 47.900 with the six highest individual marks for the event. Sargent hit a 9.825 for first place on the bars, while Bushey was given a score of 9.750 for second. Eramo was third (9.500), DelVecchio took fourth (9.475),
Rachel Swick placed fifth (9.350), and Kay took sixth (9.300).
During the third rotation, the Green and Gold hit its best event score of the day with a 49.025 on the balance beam. Galioto and teammate
Laken Sooy tied for first place on the beam with each earning a score of 9.850. Kay scored a 9.800 and
Maya Pecoraro posted a 9.775 to round out the Top-5 for the beam at the meet.
The Golden Eagles hit the floor exercise for the fourth and final rotation of the dual meet. They locked up the win over Utica with a 48.925 on the floor, led by event-winner
Laken Sooy's 9.825.
Lienna Kay and
Kirsten Paultre tied for second in the event with scores of 9.800. Pecoraro tied for fourth on the floor with her 9.775.
Kay took first place in a field of three gymnasts in the all-around competition. She scored a 38.500 across the four events. She registered scores of 9.800 on the floor and beam, 9.600 on the vault, and a 9.300 on the bars.
Brockport will now prepare for the 2024 NCGA East Regional Championships, looking for a fourth consecutive regional crown. The meet will be hosted by Ithaca College at 1pm on Saturday, March 9
th.
