Brockport, NY – SUNY Brockport has maintained a strong partnership with the Special Olympics program for many years and continued this with last week's event. On Thursday, May 30
th, Brockport hosted the Genesee Region MCSPAC West Track and Field event.
It was a school-based event, as the campus welcomed hundreds of student-athletes from Brockport Central School District, Hilton Central School District, Spencerport Central School District, and Gates Chili Central School District.
All participating were celebrated and welcomed to Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium by a large collection of student volunteers. The Brockport Central School District Marching Band led an opening ceremony parade.
One of Brockport's own sang the Star Spangled Banner, joined by a small group of Special Olympic athletes. Before the events began, the Special Olympics oath was read aloud: "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."
