Brockport NY - The Brockport Cross Country team started the season off strong, hosting the Tom Balon Alumni Classic. The men's team took first place with a total of 21 points and the women came in at a close second with 46 points in the 5k race.
Men's Team: The Golden Eagles had eight runners in the top 10 with two of those being Brockport Alumni. Senior
Jared Smith came in first with a time of 15:32.6.
Jonathan Zavala finished second at 15:50.5 and
Charlie Alekson came in third just three short seconds later with a personal record of 15:53.6.
JJ Montemaro,
Sean Killip, and
Patrick Klinger all brought in times under 16:15 taking 8th, 9th, and 10th place. Montemaro brought in a personal record of 16:08.7, Killip just two seconds later at 16:10.8, and Klinger at 16:14.0.
Brockport Alum Ethan Carey turned in 5th place overall with a time of 15:56.9.
Alum Dillon Vandemortel and past XC national's runner Gabriel Winters-Bona also placed well at 10th and 12th place. Vandemortel with a mark of 16:17.0 and Winters-Bona at 16:24.4.
Women's Team: On the women's side, the Golden Eagles had eight runners in the top 20 overall. They came in at a close second place right behind Ithaca.
Alum and past nationals XC runner Kerry Flower came in first place with a quick time of 19:06.9.
Graduate Student Mia Vizcaino finished in a well-deserved fourth place with a personal record of 19:51.3.
Senior Julianne Wilson took seventh overall with a mark of 20:22.1.
Ethne Degan and Gwen Sullivan finished just two seconds apart at 10th and 11th place with times of 20:24.2 and 20:26.1.
Emily Leo, Lauren Yonko, and Esther Nankumba finished all in a row at 13th, 14th and 15th. Leo brought in a collegiate personal record of 20:39.0, Yonko slotting in at 20:45.4 and Nankumba also with a personal record of 20:48.0.
Freshman Kylie Bowman brought in another collegiate personal record of 20:50.0 placing 18th for the golden eagles.
Up Next: The team will compete at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at the University of Rochester on Saturday, September 21st at 10am.
