Brockport, NY – On Saturday, the Golden Eagle gymnastics team will be at home in the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium for First Responder's Day. Brockport will host Cortland for a dual meet, beginning at 2pm.

First Responder's Day: The SUNY Brockport gymnastics program is partnering with the Monroe Country Sheriff's Office, Brockport Fire Department, Brockport Police Department, and the SUNY Brockport University police to host First Responders Day as part of the Golden Eagles home opener at the Jim & John Vlogianitis Gymnasium against Cortland on January 18
th.
Pre-Meet First Responder events will begin at 12:30pm in Tuttle North's Kinetic Café and the adjacent parking lot. Events include:
- Monroe County Sheriff Office's Mounted Police
- Brockport Fire Department Fire Truck on Display
- Brockport Police Patrol Unit Vehicle Tours for Children
- Brockport Police & University Police K-9 Units
- Monroe County Sheriff's Safe Child ID Information
- Brockport Fire Department Fire Prevention, Protection, Education and Information
The gymnastics meet between Brockport and Cortland will begin at 2pm. Part of the opening ceremonies will include a presentation of our nation's colors by the Monroe County Sherriff's Honor Guard and officers from of each agency will be honored during starting lineups as well.
Season Opening Victory: Brockport gymnastics team began the new season with a win over the Ithaca College Bombers, 187.625-186.550. The Golden Eagles start the year 1-0 in dual competition.
Starting the day on the uneven bars in the first rotation, the Green and Gold scored a 45.250 in the event.
Maren Eramo led the bars crew with a 9.700, the second-best score of the meet on the bars. Freshman
Jamarie Saravia had a strong debut on the bars with a 9.125.
The Golden Eagle bars lineup also saw
Charlotte Raymond (8.875) and
Emma Brookins (8.725) making their collegiate debuts as well.
Julia Klucinec posted an 8.800, while
Aladiana Tosado earned an 8.750.
Brockport's second event was the vault where the squad outscored the hosting Bombers, 46.700-46.475.
Kiara Hockman got her sophomore campaign started with a 9.475 on the vault for the team's top mark of the day.
Emma Brookins continued her debut with a 9.450 in the event.
Gracie Weaver and
Maren Eramo also scored, both posting 9.400 on the vault.
Laken Sooy contributed a 8.975 to go with an 8.700 from freshman
Emma Langdon making her debut. After the first two rotations, Ithaca led 93.225-91.950.
Going to the floor in the third rotation, Brockport turned it around for good. With a 48.525, the team registered its best event total of the meet with all six routines receiving better than a 9.5.
Kiara Hockman's 9.850 led the way, with a 9.775 from
Laken Sooy taking second for the team. Hockman and Sooy owned the top two scores of the meet on the floor exercise.
Continuing a solid debut for the Golden Eagles,
Jamarie Saravia earned a 9.675 on the floor.
Emma Brookins did the same by scoring a 9.625 with her routine.
Cali Czarcinski and
Maya Pecoraro got scores of 9.600 and 9.575 respectively.
Now leading, 140.475-139.975, Brockport moved to the balance beam looking to close out the day strong for a win. Doing exactly that, the squad scored a 47.150 in the last rotation to seal the win.
Laken Sooy's showing on the beam was the highlight, as she scored a 9.750 to tie for first place in the event at the meet.
Kiara Hockman wrapped up her big day with a 9.700 on the beam.
Maya Pecoraro was third on the team for the event, registering a 9.475 up on the beam.
Amelia York marked yet another freshman making their collegiate debut on Sunday, as she earned a 9.175 on the beam.
Lienna Kay posted a 9.050 and
Emma Brookins completed her all-around debut with an 8.800 in the event.
Brookins went uncontested in the all-around competition on the day, earning a total of 36.600 in her first collegiate meet.
NCGA East Specialist of the Week: The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) recently announced that
Kiara Hockman was chosen as the NCGA East Specialist of the Week for her performance over the weekend in Brockport's win at Ithaca.
Hockman competed in three events for the Golden Eagles, as they defeated Ithaca in the season opener, 187.625-186.550.
Posting a score of 9.850, she was the event winner at the meet with her routine on the floor exercise. Kiki also earned a score of 9.700 on the beam and a team-best mark of 9.475 on the vault.
Coming Up Next: Following this weekend's event, the Golden Eagles are set to be back home next weekend for another dual meet. They will host Rhode Island College on Sunday, January 26
th for a 2pm start time in the Tuttle North Gymnastics Center.
