Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team will be back home this weekend looking to stay hot in Empire 8 play. On Friday night the squad will take on Keuka at 7:30pm, and on Saturday it will be a 4pm tip-off against Elmira.
Strong E8 Showing: Currently riding the momentum of a 3-game win streak, the Golden Eagles have been great in conference play with an 8-1 mark. They currently sit at the top of the Empire 8 alongside Nazareth's 8-1 record in league play. Brockport is now 10-8 overall after winning eight of the last 10 games.
Last Time Out: Brockport defeated the Geneseo Knights, 67-55, on Tuesday night at Carl Schrader Gymnasium.
Zachary Rice led SUNY Brockport with a strong scoring performance, tallying 14 points on 5-for-11 shooting, including two 3-pointers.
Christian Amica contributed defensively with two steals, while
Jakhi Lucas was a standout on defense, amassing five steals along with four assists.
Mekhi Beckett made an impact from beyond the arc, hitting three 3-pointers in his 11-point outing.
Jacob Oka dominated the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds.
Team Leaders: Brockport's offense is currently led by the trio of
Mekhi Beckett (11.7ppg),
Tony Arnold (11.3ppg), and
Zachary Rice (11.1ppg). Arnold (5.8rpg) and Rice (5.3rpg) are also the team's top rebounders, along with
Jacob Oka (5.2rpg). Arnold contributes on both ends with a team-high 3.4 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
Jakhi Lucas has produced two-way numbers with 2.7 assists and a team-leading 2.4 steals per game.
Looking at Keuka & Elmira: After falling to Nazareth, 87-58, the Keuka Wolves are now 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the Empire 8. Earlier this season the Golden Eagles took down Keuka, 77-63, on the road. Akinlana Popoola leads the team in scoring with 14.1 points per game.
The Elmira Soaring Eagles enter the weekend at 5-12 overall and just 1-7 in conference play. They will take on Geneseo on Friday night ahead of Saturday's tilt with Brockport. In the earlier matchup against Elmira, Brockport got the win, 94-87. Averaging 15.5 points per game, the Soaring Eagles' offense is led by Tyler Cardello.
