Brockport Set for Another Pair of E8 Matchups

Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team is set for another pair of conference matches this weekend. First up is a trip to Alfred University for a 6pm start on Friday. Then on Saturday, Brockport returns home to take on Houghton at 2pm.

Postseason Berth Clinched: At 6-1 in the Empire 8 and 13-7 overall, the SUNY Brockport women's volleyball team has officially clinched a spot in the postseason. As a second-year member of the E8, Brockport is heading to its second straight Empire 8 Conference Tournament. It marks the 11th consecutive season for the program to secure a spot to play in its conference tournament. Head Coach Jim Clar is leading Brockport to his third postseason trip in a row in as many seasons. The Golden Eagles have been on fire as of late, riding the momentum of a six-match win streak across E8 play. This includes four, 3-0, sweeps coming against Keuka, Geneseo, Utica, and SUNY Poly. Brockport has a current streak of 12 straight set wins heading into the next match.

Weekly Award Winner:  Luba Butcher was recognized for the second time this season as the Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week. In a three-match week for Luba and the Golden Eagles, the freshman had multiple strong outings to secure a 3-0 week with three consecutive sweeps for the squad. In Brockport's 3-0 win over Geneseo, Luba totaled 12 kills, 11 digs, and a solo block. She then added eight kills, four digs, and two block assists in another 3-0 win at Utica. Finally, Butcher closed out the weekend with 11 kills, eight digs, two aces, and four total blocks (2 solo, 2 assisted) in a 3-0 win over SUNY Poly. Following the weekend, Luba is now leading the Golden Eagles with 152 kills so far this season.

Keep on Rolling: Brockport is working on a six-match win streak that has the team at 6-1 in the Empire 8 and 13-7 overall. What is even more impressive about this hot streak, the Golden Eagles have won 12 straight sets across the last four wins. They have three consecutive 3-0 sweeps and a lot of momentum going into the final stretch of the regular season.

This Weekend's Matchups: The Alfred Saxons enter the weekend at 12-13 overall with a 4-3 mark in the conference. They lost two in a row coming into Friday night's clash. However, Alfred is currently 5-0 playing at home this season. Houghton holds a 6-1 mark in the Empire 8, 12-8 overall, going into Friday night's matchup with Geneseo.

Up Next: Only two games remain on the regular season schedule following this upcoming weekend's set. The Golden Eagles will finish the slate at home with Sage on October 31st and Hartwick on November 1st.
