Field Hockey Clinches Postseason Birth With 2-1 Win Over Utica

BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Field Hockey team clinched a spot in the Empire 8 Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Utica on Saturday, October 25th. The Golden Eagles now sit at 8-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

Freshman Elise Brady continued her excellent season, notching two clutch goals to pace the Brockport offense in the win. Brady now leads the Green and Gold with eight goals on the season.

After nine minutes of scoreless action, Terralyn McLaughlin would find Elise Brady to open the scoring, putting Brockport up 1-0 at the 9:25 mark.

The game would prove to be a back-and-forth affair, with the Pioneers holding a 6-3 shots edge in the second quarter. Utica would waste little time tying the contest at 1-1, with Deanna Jackson finding the back of the net less than three minutes into the second.

Despite recording six shots on goal, four saves from Katelynn Banning, and a clutch defensive save from Makenna Hart would send Brockport into halftime tied at 1-1.

The Golden Eagles would flip the script in the second half, holding a 7-5 shots edge and a 7-3 advantage in the third period. Following a scrum in front of the net, Cassidy Pado would set up Brady for her second and game-winning goal.

Despite multiple Pioneer scoring chances, Katelynn Banning would come up huge with three second-half saves to lead Brockport to a 2-1 win.

Banning (W, 3-4) provided her best outing of the season, making eight saves with just one goal allowed.

With the postseason clinching victory, head coach Krista Archambeau has guided the Golden Eagles to three straight postseason appearances.

Up Next: Brockport will head to Rochester, NY, to face off with St. John Fisher on Wednesday, October 29th at 4 pm.
