The SUNY Brockport Department of Athletics and its student-athletes continued their strong tradition of community engagement this past weekend, participating in the annual community leaf raking initiative and canned food drive to support local families.
On Sunday, the Golden Eagle Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) collected 675 pounds of donated food from the Brockport community. All donations will benefit the Brockport Food Shelf at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, helping local households in need as the holiday season approaches.
Capping off the weekend, student-athletes from all 24 varsity programs took part in the yearly leaf raking event. More than 550 Golden Eagles volunteered their time, assisting homeowners across the area and providing support to over 25 local properties.
"Giving back to the Brockport community is a core part of who we are," said members of SAAC. "The community shows up for us year-round, and we are grateful for every opportunity to return that support."
SUNY Brockport extends a special thank you to Gary & Jhan Sauer and Athletes in Rochester for generously donating hot chocolate and doughnuts to fuel the volunteers throughout the day.
The Golden Eagles look forward to continuing their service efforts as they strengthen their connection with the Brockport community.
