Brockport, NY – The wrestling team traveled to Wilkes University for the Wilkes Invitational and posted impressive results, finishing in first overall with 136 points.
At 157,
Tyler Rossini was one of two Golden Eagles to make a run to the finals of his weight class down in PA. Rossini picked up four wins, which included a major decision (11-0), a win by fall (0:28), a tech. fall (5:31, 17-2), and a gutsy 2-1 decision. His strong run came to an end in the finals matchup where he lost, taking 10 points from his second-place finish.
Mike Welsh claimed second place at 285, scoring 10 points for the Golden Eagles with his efforts. Welsh picked up wins by fall (4:34), decision, and major decision to earn his spot in the first place bout.
At 174,
Gavin McLaughlin showed out, taking third and contributing nine team points. McLaughlin started the day with a win by fall 3:59 into the match and an 11-2 major decision. McLaughlin walked away with a 9-2 decision win in the third-place match.
Simon Lingle took notice and matched McLaughlin's output in the 197 division. Lingle earned a win by fall (1:25) to start the day, then earned a 12-6 decision to advance to the semifinals. After a loss in the semis he won the third-place match by fall (2:47) to score nine points for the Golden Eagles.
For yet another third-place finish for Brockport,
Trevor Middendorf had a big day at 125 for the squad. Three straight decision wins sent Middendorf to the semifinals of his bracket, where he took his first loss of the day. He went on to win the third-place bout by tech. fall (5:16) with his score of 21-5 in a strong bounce back performance.
Jaden Friel finished the day in fourth place with seven team points in the 141lb division. Friel had a strong tech fall win at 5:15 and added another tech fall win at 5:22 into the matchup.
Avery Bustamante finished up in fifth place with six points. Bustmante started the day strong with a 12-4 major decision win. Bustamante then finished with a win by fall 2:46 into the match, a 4-2 decided win, and an 8-6 decided win in the 5
th-place match.
Rob Armstrong followed suit with six points from his fifth place finish at 125. He started his day with a major decision victory, before falling in bout two. With two falls and a decision win, Armstrong wrestled back for his fifth place finish.
Chuck Loucks had a strong day, finishing in fifth place with six points. Loucks started off with two 11-2 major decision wins. Loucks went on to win by fall, a 12-4 major decision, and a 4-3 decision to end the competition.
Scoring four points for Brockport at the invite was
Kiam Coleman in the 165 division. He placed fifth on the day after a trio of wins, including a fall (1:12) and a pair of decision victories.
