Brockport, NY – On Monday morning, the Empire 8 announced the Brockport wrestling team to earn three major awards including Wrestler of the Year, Co-Rookie of the Year, and Coaching Staff of the Year following the 2024-25 season.
Nick Franco earned Wrestler of the Year honor after an impressive graduate season with the Golden Eagles. Over the course of the season, Franco earned three Empire 8 Wrestler of the Week awards following a home tri-meet against Utica and NCCC, the John Summa Invite, and Regionals. Franco finished up the season with an impressive 23-7 record. He had a strong second place at the NYS Collegiate Championships, moving on to clinch third at the SUNYAC Championships. Franco took first in the 285 division at the John Summa Invite and had a time at regionals with a third-place mark on the second day qualifying him for his second nationals appearance.
Vandavian Way earned Co-Rookie of the Year following a strong debut season as a freshman with the Golden Eagles. Way won a total of 13 matchups throughout the season at 165. He clinched a third-place finish at the Jamestown Open meet and a seventh-place spot at the John Summa Invite. At regionals, Way went 3-1 on the first day moving him to day 2 where he fought for the seventh-place finish.
Coach
Troy Seymour and his staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Green and Gold to a 6-1 overall dual-meet record in his first year with the team. Seymour helped Brockport to a second-place finish at the NYS Collegiate Championships, third place at the SUNYAC Championships, and third place at the John Summa Invite. Seymour also helped lead Franco to finish out the season at nationals.
