Brockport, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team is set to hit the road this weekend, traveling to Ohio to compete in the annual Wooster Rotary Classic. The Golden Eagles tip off the tournament against Otterbein University on Friday, November 21st, at 5:30 p.m. Following their opening clash, they will immediately face a tough challenge against the tournament host, The College of Wooster, on Saturday, November 22nd, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
Last Outing: The Golden Eagles moved to 1-1 on the young season after dropping a competitive road contest to Oswego, 92-81, on Tuesday night. Despite a resilient second-half push that erased an early deficit, the Green and Gold ultimately could not overcome the Lakers' efficient scoring night. Despite the loss, the Green and Gold showcased their trademark balanced attack, placing four players in double figures.
Senior Leaders Setting the Tone: As Brockport prepares for their weekend road trip, the performance of their senior duo will be key to their success in Ohio. Center Jacob Oka continues to provide a dominant interior presence, leading all Brockport scorers against Oswego with 21 points on an efficient 9-of-16 shooting from the field. Oka also made his mark on the glass, pulling down seven rebounds (four offensive) and dishing out two assists. Senior guard Zachary Rice provides crucial backcourt production, following up his game-high 21 points in the opener with 17 points against the Lakers. Rice also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and added two steals, showcasing his all-around value on both ends of the floor.
Newcomers Making an Impact: Two key newcomers demonstrated their immediate importance to the Golden Eagles' rotation Saturday night. Transfer Camron Dyer maintained his high-impact role, scoring 14 points—including three crucial shots from beyond the arc—to go along with five rebounds. Freshman point guard Pharell Aybar contributed 7 points while being instrumental in running the offense, dishing out a team-high six assists. He also made his presence felt on the defensive end, tallying three steals on the night.
Firepower Off the Bench: The Green and Gold's depth is proving to be a major strength early this season, highlighted by strong performances from reserves. Sophomore Emilio Nabli came off the bench to step up in an increased role against Oswego, delivering 10 points and shooting 50% (2-for-4) from three-point range. Nabli also provided solid defensive contributions, recording a steal and a block. Furthermore, junior transfer Marco Evans has provided consistent impact through the first two games, averaging 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist across the two contests.
Up Next: Following the road trip to Ohio, the Golden Eagles will return to local action. Brockport travels on the road to face nearby RIT in Rochester on Tuesday, December 2nd, with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
