Men's Basketball Looks to Bounce Back At RIT

Rochester, NY – The SUNY Brockport men's basketball team (1-3) is set to continue its early-season road stretch, traveling to Rochester to take on the RIT Tigers (1-2) on Tuesday, December 2nd, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. The Golden Eagles enter the contest looking to translate a strong offensive attack into a road victory after a challenging weekend at the Wooster Rotary Classic in Ohio.

Wooster Rotary Recap: While the Golden Eagles dropped both games over the weekend, falling to Otterbein (87-73) and suffering a stunning, final-possession defeat to host College of Wooster (86-85), the team showed clear signs of high-level firepower and defensive grit.

Brockport's offense displayed its potential, particularly in the Saturday finale against Wooster, where the team finished with a season-best 83.3% from the charity stripe and forced an impressive 21 turnovers. Down by four at the half, the Green and Gold stormed out of the locker room, opening the second frame with a blistering 17-4 run to flip the momentum. Senior guard Zachary Rice anchored the effort and was recognized for his play, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Golden Eagles by the Numbers:
  • Zachary Rice delivered a spectacular individual effort all weekend, highlighted by a game-high 24 points against Wooster. He averaged 19 points on a strong 43.7% field goal shooting, to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals on the weekend.
  • Jacob Oka was a force inside and out, averaging 12.0 points and 6.5 rebounds on the weekend. The veteran forward opened the tournament with an elite level of efficiency, shooting 6-of-7 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc against Otterbein. He also dominated the glass with a team-high nine rebounds against Wooster.
  • Omar White excelled defensively and was relentless on the glass. He averaged six rebounds and snatched two steals on the weekend, including a game-high 10 boards against Otterbein
  • Ajani Flemming had a breakout weekend, providing strong shooting from off the bench. He averaged 13.5 points (27 total) and connected on 43.8% (7-of-16) from long distance. Against Wooster, he notched 15 points and was a key playmaker, finishing with five assists and three steals.
  • Camron Dyer proved to be a high-impact presence on both ends of the floor. He averaged 10.5 points (21 total) on a solid 43.5% (10-of-23) field goal shooting. Defensively, he was disruptive, averaging 2.5 steals (5 total) and 1.5 blocks (3 total) over the two contests.

Scouting the RIT Tigers: The RIT Tigers stand at 1-2 on the season, coming off their first win of the season, a 65-58 victory over Keuka. Before that win, RIT was tested in a pair of close non-conference matchups, dropping games to Nazareth (56-53) and Geneseo (80-76).

Graduate student Josiah Turner will be a player to watch for in the matchup. In RIT's win over Keuka, Turner put up a season-best 20 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting (61.5% field goal percentage) and pulled down 6 rebounds.

Up Next: Brockport will embark on a lengthy road swing in the Sunshine State, as the Golden Eagles head to Daytona, FL, on Monday, December 15th, to tip off the DME Tournament with a matchup against Piedmont University.
