Golden Eagles Head to Daytona Beach for DME Tournament Tip-Off

Daytona, FL – Fresh off a dominating offensive performance, the SUNY Brockport men's basketball team (2-3) is set to conclude its lengthy road stretch by heading south to the Sunshine State. The Golden Eagles will tip off the DME Tournament in Daytona Beach, FL, on Monday, December 15th, at 2 p.m., with a matchup against Piedmont University.

The two-day tournament will test Brockport's resilience and depth as they aim to build upon their recent success. Following Monday's opener, the Green and Gold will face their final challenge of the road trip on Tuesday, December 16th, with a game time set for either 12 p.m. or 2 p.m., depending on the results of the opening round.

Last Outing: The Golden Eagles enter the tournament carrying serious offensive momentum after a commanding 84-65 road victory over RIT in their last contest. The win was a showcase of season-best efficiency, with Brockport connecting on a scorching 60% (12-for-20) from behind the arc—a significant improvement from their prior games—and a stellar 52.6% field goal percentage.

The Golden Eagles established immediate and commanding control, seizing the lead early in the first half and building a decisive 15-point advantage at halftime (43-28). Their momentum was unstoppable, fueled by an explosive 13-5 run to close the period, a dominant stretch of play that ensured RIT would never seriously threaten to regain the lead for the rest of the contest.

The balanced attack featured three double-figure scorers:
  • Camron Dyer delivered a dominant double-double performance, breaking out for a game-high and season-high 22 points while snagging 10 rebounds. Dyer was a two-way force who also contributed 5 assists and 2 blocks.
  • Freshman Ajani White led a 34-point bench effort with 16 points, shooting the laces off the ball by going 4-for-5 from deep.
  • Jacob Oka was an undeniable two-way threat, chipping in 11 points and converting a stellar 6-of-7 from the charity stripe, while picking up 4 steals.

Empire 8 Rookie of the Week: The team's momentum was further recognized this week as freshman guard Ajani Flemming was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Week. The honor follows Flemming's outstanding efficiency and increased role in recent weeks. Against RIT, Flemming scored a season-high 16 points while shooting a remarkable 80% (4-for-5) from beyond the arc, showcasing his high-level firepower off the bench. The Brooklyn native has stepped up, scoring 12 or more points in each of his last three outings, and currently leads all qualified Golden Eagles in three-point percentage, drilling 11 of 22 three-pointers to open the season.

Scouting The Lions: The Golden Eagles will first face the Piedmont Lions (4-2) in Monday's opener. The Lions enter the DME Tournament with a solid record, but are coming off a recent tune-up game—a Division II exhibition loss to Young Harris College, 83-63.

A key opportunity for the Golden Eagles lies on the defensive end. Piedmont's offense has allowed 17 points per game off turnovers. The Green and Gold will look to veterans like Oka and Rice, combined with the high-impact play of newcomers like Dyer and White, to impose their defensive will and secure a non-conference win before the holiday break.

Up Next: The Golden Eagles will finally return to their home court following the Florida road trip. They will host their long-awaited home opener on Tuesday, December 30th, at 3 p.m. against Penn State Behrend.
