BROCKPORT, N.Y- The Brockport Field Hockey team will play host to Oswego State on Wednesday, September 24th, at 4 pm before heading to Troy, NY, to take on RPI on Saturday, September 27th, at 2 pm.
Last Time Out: The Golden Eagles opened their Empire 8 slate with a 4-0 victory over Elmira on Saturday, September 20th. Brockport improved to 4-2 on the season following the win.
Clare Devine and
Emily Nestor both netted their first goals as Golden Eagles, with
Elise Brady and
Cassidy Pado each scoring for Brockport.
Lauren Mastromarco (W, 4-1) was perfect between the pipes, making a stop across 60 scoreless minutes.
Ava Sanchez led the Golden Eagles with five shots on goal, with
Clare Devine and
Elise Brady leading the team with six shots on the day.
Freshman Firepower: Scoring 13 goals as a squad through six games, the Golden Eagles' offense has been primarily powered by a strong freshman class. Brockport freshmen have provided over 69% of the team's goal production, led by
Elise Brady and her team-best three goals and two game-winning goals. Six different first-year players have recorded their first goals, making up over half of the Golden Eagles' point production.
Between the Pipes: Following Brockport's win over Elmira,
Lauren Mastromarco secured her first career shutout as she continued her strong start to the season. Holding a 4-1 record, Mastromarco has seen the bulk of the action between the pipes for Brockport, holding a 1.98 GAA with a 71.9 save percentage and 23 saves. The sophomore from Wappingers Falls, NY, has allowed a goal or fewer in three of her five starts on the season.
Scouting Oswego State: The Lakers have jumped out to a 1-6 start and are in the midst of a five-game losing streak, most recently falling to Rochester on the road 4-0 last Friday. The former conference foes have met in each season since 2006, with Brockport holding a 14-10 head-to-head edge since 2003. The Golden Eagles will be searching for their fourth straight victory in the head-to-head series.
Scouting RPI: The Engineers hold a strong 5-2 record, most recently downing Eastern Connecticut State 6-1 at home last Saturday. RPI has won four straight games, earning dominant wins against Empire 8 adversaries Utica (8-1) and Russell Sage (4-0). The Golden Eagles hold an edge in the head-to-head series, winning three of the five head-to-head matchups since 2003. Brockport will look to avenge a 4-2 loss at home to RPI in 2024.
