BROCKPORT, NY - The Brockport Ice Hockey team (6-9, 4-3-1 UCHC) will head to Purchase, NY to take on Manhattanville (2-12-1, 1-5 UCHC) on Friday, January 23rd at 7 PM. The Golden Eagles will take on the Valiants from Purchase, NY on Saturday at 2 PM to round out this week's action.
Last Outing: The Golden Eagles were defeated by St. John Fisher on Alumni Day, 2-0, on Saturday, January 17th. The loss ended a four game UCHC winning streak.
Despite picking up the loss,
David Filak (L, 5-4) kept Brockport within striking distance all evening. Filak would finish with 25 saves to just one goal allowed, saving over 96% of the shots he faced.
Livio Azevedo and
Matthew Lee led Brockport in the shooting department, firing four shots each.
Dominic Chirico was strong of the defensive backline, blocking a game-high three shots in a strong effort.
Manny Sanchez shined in the faceoff circle, securing seven faceoff wins on 12 attempts.
Freshman Firepower: Across 15 games, the Golden Eagles freshman class has stepped up to power the offense, with three Brockport freshman ranking among the top point scorers on the squad.
Nick Reif holds the team lead in goals (6) and points (10), with defenseman Kyle Kussman ranking second on the team with eight points, coming from three goals and five assists. First year skater
Matthew Lee has been excellent as of late for Brockport, scoring three goals with four points across his last three outings, ranking fourth on the team in scoring with seven points (4G, 3A).
Between the Pipes: Earning both Empire 8 and UCHC Goaltender of the Week honors last week,
David Filak has played his best stretch of hockey for the Green and Gold. The Northville, MI native has allowed two goals or less in each of his last three starts, allowing just five total goals with 82 saves, saving over 94% of his shots over that span (0.942). Leading the Golden Eagles with a 0.917 save percentage (5th in UCHC), Filak's 31.78 saves per game serves as the 3rd most in the UCHC conference.
Scouting Manhattanville: The Valiants have played to a 2-12-1 overall record and 1-5 mark in conference play, most recently falling to #11 Geneseo on the road, 7-0. Manhattanville has won the last five head-to-head matchups with the Golden Eagles, with Brockport looking for its first win in the series since 2014.
