Brockport, NY – This weekend the Golden Eagles gymnastics program will travel to Ithaca to take on both the hosting Ithaca Bombers and the Cortland Red Dragons in a tri-meet. All the action is scheduled to begin at 2pm on Sunday, February 8
th.
Brockport at Ursinus Recap: Brockport won its last dual meet against Ursinus College on Sunday, 188.250-187.175.
The Golden Eagles started the day off with the uneven bars.
Jamarie Saravia paced the group in the event with her score of 9.500, which was second at the meet.
Alexis Schulman posted a 9.300 which was good for fourth in the event. Brockport would total a 45.325 on the bars, the team's lowest event score of the afternoon.
Up next on the vault, the squad would improve its scoring with a 47.050 in the second rotation. Event winner,
Kiara Hockman led the way with a 9.750 on the day. The lineup also saw solid scores from
Shannon Gibbs (9.525),
Jamarie Saravia (9.450), and
Lienna Kay (9.425).
The third rotation of the meet would put Brockport's gymnasts on the floor, where they shined bright down in PA. Brockport's 48.450 on the floor was the team's top event total of the meet. Three of the top four scores on the floor on Sunday belonged to the Golden Eagles.
Placing second in the event was
Kiara Hockman, who hit a 9.750 once again. Close behind was
Claire Wood and
Jamarie Saravia, both tying for third on the floor with a 9.725. The floor scoring was rounded out by a pair of 9.625 totals from
Cali Czarcinski and
Lienna Kay.
To put the finishes touches on the dual meet victory, Brockport scored a 47.425 on the balance beam to create the final score of 188.250. With a 9.800,
Kiara Hockman won her second event of the day.
Amelia York added a 9.500,
Lienna Kay scored a 9.450, and Cali Czarsinksi also hit 9.450.
Another Weekly Award: For the third time this season, Brockport has had one of its gymnasts earn an NCGA East weekly honor. Earning NCGA East All-Around Gymnast of the Week,
Lienna Kay collects her first award of the season. With a final score of 37.550, Lienna won the all-around competition at the meet over Erin Roe from Ursinus. Kay posted scores of 9.625 on the floor, 9.450 on the balance beam, 9.425 on the vault, and 9.050 on the bars. Kay currently ranks fifth in the NCGA with an all-around season average score of 37.342. Her best score of the year so far, 38.275, currently ranks as the third highest all-around score of the season.
Still Flying High: Following the team's most recent meet,
Kiara Hockman remains top three in the rankings in the NCGA in three different events. Her season average vault score of 9.775 is tops in the nation. Kiki sits at second in the rankings with her 9.788 on the balance beam. Finally, on the floor exercise she ranks third with an average of 9.781.
Top 3 on the Beam & Floor: As a team, the Golden Eagles rank inside the top three in the nation for both the balance beam and the floor exercise so far this season. The beam team is posting a season average of 47.719, ranking second nationally. On the floor, Brockport's squad averages 48.331 for third in the nation. To complement their top two events, the Golden Eagles also rank fifth on the vault with an average of 47.575. Altogether, the team's full season average of 189.913 sits at fourth in the country.
Empire State Collegiate Championship: Following the trip to Ithaca this weekend, Brockport will turn its attention to February 14
th's Empire State Championship meet. Hosted by Cortland (2pm start), the Golden Eagles will take on four other New York schools with Cortland, Ithaca, Utica, and Long Island (LIU) all competing at the event.
The Road Back Home: After the Empire State Championship, Brockport will be set to finish out the regular season portion of the year with a pair of home meets. First up will be a dual against the Utica Pioneers for Senior Day on Sunday, February 22
nd. Then on the 28
th, Brockport will welcome Greenville for one more dual ahead of the NCGA Regional Championships on March 7
th.
