Rochester, NY – The SUNY Brockport women's flag football team lost to Roberts Wesleyan over the weekend, 33-13. Brockport is now 1-1 overall in the early goings of the inaugural season for the program.
The game was controlled by the Redhawks early on, as Roberts Wesleyan would eventually create a 33-0 lead through the first three quarters.
In the fourth, the Golden Eagles found some success offensively to prevent the shutout.
Madison Beardsley and
Megan Gerber both found the endzone on the ground.
First it was Beardsley, scoring from 6 yards out. The extra point try was good, making the score read 33-7. Then with just 1:45 left to play, Gerber broke loose for a 23-yard touchdown run to create the final 33-13.
Gerber led the offense with 56 rushing yards on 16 attempts with one touchdown. She also threw for 51 yards in the contest. She even caught one pass for 15 yards.
Beardsley contributed on the ground and in the air as well. She had 18 rushing yards with one score, to go with 37 passing yards. Madison also added one catch for seven yards.
Addy VanDewater proved to be the top target in the pass game, making three catches for 20 yards.
Caitlynn Haugh snagged a pair for 18 yards receiving.
Defensively,
Karina Rozhevenko put together a flag pulling clinic for the Green and Gold. She led all players in the game with 14 tackles, including one sack and four tackles for loss.
Brooklyn Gaurnier had five stops for the defense, while
Ariana Kennedy had six tackles and one pass breakup.
The Golden Eagles now turn their heads towards Empire 8 Conference play for the first time. They are slated to take on the Russell Sage Gators out in Albany on Friday, March 27
th at 4pm.
