Brockport, N.Y. — The Brockport flag football team (9-3, 6-2 E8) returns to Bob Boozer Field on Wednesday, April 29, at 4 p.m. to host Roberts Wesleyan (11-0) in the inaugural Mark's Pizzeria Flag Football Cup. Coming off an Empire 8 Championship victory last week, the Golden Eagles will face the undefeated Red Hawks in a marquee non-conference matchup.
Empire 8 Tournament Recap
The No. 2-seeded Golden Eagles captured the Empire 8 Championship with a 36-31 victory over No. 4 Elmira on Friday, April 24, at Bob Boozer Field. Brockport overcame an early 12-0 deficit to secure the program's first conference title.
Megan Gerber was named Empire 8 Tournament MVP following a standout two-game performance as a dual-threat quarterback. In the championship, she rushed for 260 yards and one touchdown on 33 carries while also passing for 127 yards and three touchdowns.
Sophomore tight end Trelani Harper served as a primary target for Gerber, finishing the tournament with 12 receptions for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Harper posted 123 receiving yards on eight catches in the semifinal win over Hartwick, including a 34-yard touchdown, and added another score in the championship to solidify her presence as a red-zone threat.
Freshman wide receiver Addy VanDewater made an immediate impact in her first collegiate postseason, totaling 10 receptions for 115 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 15 yards per catch. She recorded 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the semifinal before adding another score in the championship. VanDewater also contributed defensively with 16 tackles and three interceptions across both games, including a second-quarter interception return for a touchdown in the championship that cut the deficit to 12–6 and shifted momentum in Brockport's favor.
Junior safety Lauren Cundra anchored the secondary, recording four tackles in each game and intercepting a pass in both the semifinal and championship. She finished the tournament with five pass breakups—three against Hartwick and two versus Elmira.
Graduate linebacker Cymbri Jefferson led the defensive unit with 12 total tackles, including a team-high nine in the semifinal. She added a sack and a tackle for loss in the championship, helping limit Elmira's offensive production.
Sophomore linebacker Ava Leyh recorded eight tackles during the tournament, including two tackles for loss in the championship. She delivered a key performance in the title game with two interceptions, helping secure Brockport's first Empire 8 championship.
Gerber, Harper, VanDewater, Cundra, Jefferson, and Leyh were all named to the Empire 8 All-Tournament Team.
