Box Score Brockport, N.Y. — The Brockport flag football team (9-4) was defeated by Roberts Wesleyan (12-0), 12-0, in the inaugural Mark's Pizzeria Flag Football Cup on Wednesday, April 29. Despite a strong defensive performance, the Golden Eagles were unable to overcome both the elements and the undefeated Red Hawks.
Lauren Cundra led a standout effort on defense, recording three interceptions and eight flag pulls, including tackles for loss, while also adding two receptions for 18 yards on offense. The Empire 8 First Team selection surpassed double-digit interceptions on the season, continuing to establish herself as a playmaker on both sides of the ball.
Arianna Kennedy paced Brockport with nine flag pulls and two tackles for loss, while adding a sack and a 19-yard reception. Jaianna Byrd also contributed defensively with five flag pulls, including one for loss.
Trelani Harper led the offense with five receptions for 29 yards and contributed on special teams with four punts for 74 yards, placing two inside the Roberts Wesleyan 20-yard line.
Brockport's opening drive proved to be its most productive, as the Golden Eagles gained multiple first downs and advanced into the Roberts Wesleyan red zone. The Red Hawks' defense held firm, forcing three consecutive incompletions to end the 12-play, 47-yard drive.
The Golden Eagles' defense limited Roberts Wesleyan to just 32 yards over its first three drives, keeping the game scoreless through the opening quarter. The Red Hawks broke through in the second quarter with a 67-yard touchdown pass to take a 6-0 lead into halftime.
Brockport's defense continued to perform in the second half, holding Roberts Wesleyan scoreless through the third quarter and much of the fourth. However, a 26-yard rushing touchdown extended the Red Hawks' lead and ultimately secured the 12-0 result.
Ava Leyh and Addy VanDewater each recorded three flag pulls, with Leyh adding an interception and VanDewater contributing a tackle for loss. Megan Gerber led the offense with 143 total yards.
