SUNY Brockport has announced the hiring of Jessica Christenson as the new head coach of the Golden Eagles women's soccer program, ushering in the next chapter for one of Division III's premier teams. Christenson takes over the reins from longtime head coach Mike Idland, who recently accepted the women's soccer head coaching position at Buffalo State after 10 highly successful seasons at Brockport.
Christenson arrives in Brockport following a successful stint as an assistant coach with the University of Rochester Yellowjackets, adding Division III postseason experience and recruiting connections throughout Western New York. Prior to Rochester, she spent nine years as the head women's soccer coach at Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y., guiding the Wolves to 42 victories over eight seasons. Her Keuka tenure included back-to-back 13-win campaigns in 2018 and 2019, capped by a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) regular-season title in 2018 and NEAC Coach of the Year honors. Christenson's teams consistently produced impact players, with 13 Wolves earning All-Conference recognition in the Empire 8 and NEAC, including the 2018 NEAC Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
The Golden Eagles women's soccer program, under the guidance of Idland, has lost just seven contests in the past three seasons, compiling a 41-7-11 record in that time while advancing to the SUNYAC Championship game in 2023, the NCAA Tournament in 2024, and the Empire 8 Conference Championship game in 2025.

Off the field, Christenson's programs have distinguished themselves in the classroom. During her time at Keuka, 83 student-athletes were named to the Empire 8 President's List, 44 earned NEAC Scholar-Athlete honors, and seven were selected to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team. Her commitment to the holistic student-athlete experience aligns with Brockport's emphasis on academic achievement, community engagement, and competitive success.
In addition to her collegiate coaching career, Christenson has deep roots in the regional soccer community through her long-standing role with RNYFC Soccer Club in Rochester, N.Y. She has coached girls' teams at the U12, U16, U17, and U18 levels, helping develop youth players across the area and strengthening her ties with club coaches and families. That experience will bolster Brockport's recruiting footprint across Western New York and the Finger Lakes, as Christenson continues to identify and attract high-character, high-talent student-athletes to the Golden Eagles program.

As a player, Christenson brings a high-level pedigree to Brockport. A 2012 graduate of the University of Connecticut, she was a four-year letterwinner and two-year team captain for the Huskies, leading UConn to NCAA Tournament appearances in 2009 and 2010. Over her collegiate career, she totaled 11 goals and 10 assists and earned Big East Academic All-Star honors twice. She was also recognized nationally, being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District I First Team in 2010.
Following her time at UConn, Christenson embarked on a four-year professional career. She began with the Ottawa Fury of the USL W-League, scoring 10 goals in 23 games and helping the club secure a league title. She then joined the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), where she contributed to the Thorns' 2013 NWSL Championship in the league's inaugural season. Christenson later continued her professional journey overseas with Mallbackens IF in Sweden and Yzeure Allier in France, gaining valuable international experience and competing at a high level against some of the world's top players.
Christenson earned her bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Connecticut in May 2012 and completed her master's degree in coaching and athletics administration from Concordia University Irvine in August 2017. Her combination of professional playing experience, proven coaching success, academic emphasis, and regional recruiting ties positions her to build on Brockport's recent achievements and guide the Golden Eagles women's soccer program into its next era.
