BROCKPORT, NY — The SUNY Brockport field hockey team prepares to kick off Empire 8 Conference play this week, riding momentum from an impressive 5-1 non-conference start and a three-game winning streak. The Green and Gold will hit the road to open their conference schedule against Elmira College on Wednesday, September 23rd, at 7 p.m., before returning home to Dr. Linda Arena & Class of '69 Field to battle Hartwick College on Saturday, September 26th, at 3 p.m. Brockport enters conference play boasting the stingiest defensive unit in the Empire 8, holding a conference-low 0.83 goals-against average on the season.

Mastromarco Named E8 Defensive Player of the Week
For the second time this season, junior goalkeeper
Lauren Mastromarco was named the Empire 8 Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, September 21st.
Mastromarco anchored the Green and Gold to back-to-back complete shutouts across 120 scoreless minutes in the cage over the week. She logged two saves in Tuesday's 2-0 road victory at Oswego State before turning in a stellar six-save performance—including four big stops in a chaotic fourth quarter—against Oneonta to secure the 1-0 clean sheet.
Through six contests, Mastromarco leads all Empire 8 goalkeepers in total saves (28), shutouts per game (2), and goals-against average (0.57). Supported by her stellar play between the pipes, Brockport's unit leads the conference in scoring defense, allowing just 0.83 goals per game.
Balanced Attack
The Golden Eagles have leaned on a variety of scoring options to power the offense. Across six outings, 10 different Golden Eagles have found the back of the net, with three Brockport players tied for the team lead in points.
Elise Brady (3G, 1A),
Emily Nestor (2G, 3A), and
Penelope Schalck (3G, 1A) have all played to over a point-per-game pace, each providing seven points.
Sophia Jones (360 minutes) and
Carleigh Colvin (331 minutes, 2 DS) have set the offense up for success, leading the squad in minutes played and creating offensive chances from the midfield.
Scouting Elmira
The Soaring Eagles enter Wednesday's contest at 2-4 overall with a 1-0 mark in conference play. Elmira opened its Empire 8 slate with a 4-3 victory over Keuka College in its last outing. Brockport has controlled the all-time series in recent years, winning every matchup against Elmira since 2019. In the most recent meeting between the two programs last season, the Golden Eagles earned a 4-0 shutout victory over the Soaring Eagles.
Scouting Hartwick
The Hawks sit at 2-3 overall and hold a 1-0 record in Empire 8 action after securing a 4-1 victory over Nazareth in their conference opener. Before traveling to Brockport on Saturday, Hartwick will host Keuka College on Wednesday, September 23rd, for more conference action. Brockport has taken one of the last three matchups against the Hawks, highlighted by a 1-0 home victory during the 2024 campaign.
