Matthew Lashway (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) of the men’s wrestling team has been named The College at Brockport Male Athlete of the Week after placing third in the 197-pound division at the New York State Championships on Sunday.
Competing at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, Lashway pinned his first opponent in just 17 seconds before falling to eventual second-place finisher Lukasz Stala from Cornell. Lashway then converted two consecutive pins, both coming in less than three minutes, against NYU and Division I opponent Columbia.
In the semifinal bout, Lashway scored a 13-6 decision against Division I opponent Zach Ward from the University of Buffalo. In the third-place match, Lashway squared off against Robert Doyle from Army. The freshman scored an 8-4 decision over the senior to claim the best finish of his young Brockport career.
