Senior Kyle Smith (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) broke one of the oldest school records at The College at Brockport when he registered seven strikeouts in a 3-2 victory over Oneonta Saturday afternoon.

With his seven K's, Smith now has a single-season school record of 69 strikeouts. Smith was selected as the Brockport Male Athlete of the Week.

Smith broke Brian Meyl's previous school record of 68 strikeouts, which was set in 1976. Smith ran his record to 8-1 on the season with the win as the Golden Eagles clinched second place in the final SUNYAC regular season standings. Behind Smith's strong pitching, the Green and Gold advanced into the SUNYAC Tournament, which begins Friday in Cortland.

For the year, Smith has a 1.60 earned-run average and has a team-leading five complete games and one shutout. Smith sits one win shy of the school record for most wins in a single season, trailing Ben Kimball, who won nine games during the 2004 season.
