Senior Stacey Gibbins (Eden, NY/Eden) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III national championship meet in the hammer throw during Friday afternoon’s Gator Invitational Outdoor Track and Field meet at Allegheny College. Gibbins, who set a season-best in the hammer throw, was named The College at Brockport’s Female Athlete of the Week.

Gibbins recorded a provisional qualifying mark of 158 feet, nine inches (48.40 meters) to place fifth at Allegheny, one of two Golden Eagles to provisionally qualify in the hammer that day, joining senior Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls), who placed third.

Gibbins hit the provisional standard on her second attempt. It was Gibbins’ personal best performance in the hammer throw, surpassing the 45.82 meter effort during the April 30 Roberts Wesleyan College Open meet. It was also the first time Gibbins provisionally qualified for the NCAA championship meet.

During the 2011 outdoor season, Gibbins has qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships three times in the hammer throw. The ECAC championship meet is Thursday and Friday at Moravian (PA) College.
