Senior Thomas Rispoli (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) opened up the season with an impressive 3^rd place finish in the 157 lb. Open Division at the NCAA Division I Eastern Michigan Invitational, competing primarily against Division I opponents.

The strong performance earned Rispoli the Brockport Male Athlete of the Week award.

Rispoli started off the tournament with a 16-0 technical fall over a wrestler from the University of Michigan. After a loss to the top seeded wrestler in the bracket sent him to the consolation bracket, Rispoli rattled off victories against wrestlers from Mt. St. Joseph’s University, Purdue, and a second victim from Michigan. In the third place match, Rispoli scored a close 8-7 decision over Bobby Barnhisel from Navy.

 “I felt pretty good coming into the tournament,” said Rispoli. “After I lost I knew I had to wrestle back hard to place and I knew there were almost all Division I kids in the bracket. That is probably the best I have wrestled since I've been here.”
